Hi All,
I have a full TTI exhaust on my '69 dart and boy is that thing loud driving down the road. Has anyone else had the same problem? I'm pretty sure I don't have any leaks but anyone else's experience with this would be great. I'm thinking of throwing the dynomax mufflers in the scrap heap. They are WAY too loud. Any ideas?

I have TTI headers and Dynomax Super turbo mufflers and they don't sound that loud to me. I do have an X-pipe installed too. Now the header tap(I think that's what you call it) at the collectors are kinda loud at idle. All in all, I like the way my car sounds.

They get quieter the older you get. I can barely hear mine now. Too many Who concerts.

Maybe I'm just getting too fat old a bald. :)

I think I'll bring it to my local muffler shop this spring after I get it out of storage... it's a warm -17 below here right now, without the windchill. Have the weld everything and be done with it.

I love the sound of it... just not the resonance driving down the road.

i have the tti h pipe set up on hp manifolds and at about 2000 rpms it resonates a lot louder than any other rpm. it did mellow out a lot from when it was new. i wonder how the x compares.i have been told by a lot of people the car sounds good so im not going to change a thing. i thought about adding resonators on the rear but that would spoil it.

I had to remove the Dynomax Super Turbos from my Valiant (2.5" TTI H-pipe system) and replace them with Pypes M-80s.... (long story.)

They have provided me with the worst sounding exhaust system I have ever heard (machine-gun, stacatto, sound with no "body.")

I would gladly add some resonators behnd the rear axle to quiet this thing down, if I could. Doesn't look to me like there's enough room, particularly where the tailpipe runs beside the gas tank on the passenger side.

Has anyone ever istalled resonators on a system like this (TTI complete 2.5")????

Any advice would be appreciated. The M-80s HAVE to stay... "have to" case.:angry7:

I`m not one who likes a real loud car either. If you put a good 3-pass muffler on it you should be good to go. Another way to quiet it down would be to add a crossover pipe and a couple glasspacks just behind the headers.

And my problem is PLAYING in loud bands!

I have a full TTI system with X pipes tied onto Flowmasters and THAT'S where my problem is. I'm hating those damn Flowmasters more & more when ever I drive my car. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking of Dynomax welded mufflers are next up.

But there IS something perversely satisfying about setting off that neighborhood kids car alarm that has the loud stereo that annoys you....

I love the dynomax superturbos. Here is a trick that you will love.

Install some Dynamat, hushmat, fatmat, or whatever sound deadener of choice. It will make a world of difference as far as the resonance factor and cabin decibles.

I like it loud. They know I'm coming up on their *** and they better clear a path.

There were flowmasters on my car when I purchased it, and it was LOUD. After several complaints from the neighbors, I installed the Dynomax Super turbo mufflers and it is much quieter now. It has a good throaty sound without being harsh.

Like Longgone said, if you add some glasspacks after the headers, they will act as resonators. There are also resonators you can buy and put in the same location, but they are really just the same thing as glasspacks, but cost more. I have another car (of which, I will not name the make of) that was too loud, and had an obnoxious tone to it. I put a resonator just aft of the CAT, and it not only quieted it down, but also gave it a deeper, throatier tone (sounded like a coffee can full of pissed off bees before). The longer resonator or glasspack you use, the more it will muffle it.

I have a TTI H-pipe system. After the collector, there's the H-Pipe section, then the muffler location... The only place I can see where there's any room is in the very back. Am I missing something?:read2:

Had the same issue with my Dart! I had Flowmasters on it and the drone effect took all the fun out of driving the car. Also had Magnaflows which sounded nice UNTIL you nailed it! Way loud! I ended up using Accurate Exhausts high flow mufflers and now it sounds closer to the Mopar original mufflers that came on the car which I always thought had a nice throaty sound. My Buddy has the TTI setup on his Dart with the Dynomax that came wiith the system and he is starting to complain more and more also about the resonance/drone effect at around 2000 - 2500 rpm range. His system is about 4 years old and it gets louder every year! He's now thinking of changing out his mufflers to something less noisy!

You may have to make "some adjustments" to your H-pipe to make it work but it makes a lot of difference in the sound. I`ve got the glass-pack / mufflers on my Barracuda. I`ll try to get a couple pictures for you.

I've been tempted to go w/ a set of Cherry Bombs out of a feeling of nostalgia; anyone using them now or use them in the past?

Agree Sound Deadner helps a lot.

Under the rear seat there was not even carpet in my car.

Damn, you oughta hear mine. Headers, h pipe, flowmasters and no tailpipes. Just turndowns at the axle. Thought about tailpipes once, but saw how little room I had (springs moved over with 1" offset kit). Maybe if I put a fuel cell in it this spring......

I have TTIs on my Dart with a local muffler shop's 3" X pipe on to the Flowmasters then 2-1/2" to the rear bumper. Not too loud but I do get a harmonic vibration at around 2000 RPM. Took a while to track it down. You would swear it was an engine vibration but take the pipes loose at the collectors and no vibration. Connect the pipes back up and vibration is back. It may be that there is not enough, or maybe too much, movement in the entire system. will sort it out in the spring....

If you want something like glasspacks but not as "machine-gun" sounding and without packing to burn out try PowerStick mufflers by Classic Chambered (custom muffler shop in Michigan). I have the longest (26") ones in a Pypes 2.5" X-pipe system in my mild 318 Duster and it sounds great. They're a little drone-y at lower speeds but once you get over 55 MPH or so it really quiets down. And when you punch it the car has a nice loud, deep and "open" sound that isn't raspy or poppy. Very similar to the factory exhaust sound but louder and more open-sounding.

Well, I can't really put mufflers ahead of my dumps because opening the dumps is supposed to eliminate the mufflers and free up the exhaust. Right now, the dumps are just ahead of the existing mufflers. If I put glasspacks ahead of the dumps, I won't be gaining much of an advantage when I get to the strip and open my dumps; I'll still be running through mufflers. After spending about $75 for these convenient dumps, I don't really want to have to disconect the collectors to get "open exhaust," but, thanks for the advice.8)

I didn`t realize you had cutouts on your system. It sounds like you`ve got a lot invested in it already but if you have cut outs then a 3 pass muffler would be a great way to go.
