Yeah, I want a PS3 but I want one of the older ones with the 4 USP ports so I can still play all my PS2 games.

yeah the older ps3 with all the ports I think was a 60gb model which you can probably pick up on ebay pretty cheap used...maybe even new...who knows.

I think the new ps3 slims might be backward compatible also but I am not sure, I personally think the older playstation 3's look way nicer also....they are shiny and have chrome and heat sensitive buttons and I just like them, there a good peice of electronic equipment to have handy

Most companies will be halting production of there Plasmas. LCDs out sell them. The Plasmas were kind when the LCDs were not available in the 46" and up sizes.
Actually Panasonic has just spent a ton of investment capitol on their next gen Plasma including a new manufacturing facility so while a lot of companies are getting out it's a competitive technology issue for them as the remaining companies have the patent rights to the next gen tech they are developing .
Kinda like trying to build and sell a new cell phone when Nokia and Qualcomm hold almost all the wireless tech patents ,Just look at what Nokia is doing to Apple the possible numbers there could put Jobs out of business if thing go Nokia's way .Their wireless tech patents are being unlawfully used in everything Apple makes including computers . The cost to license other peoples new tech patents has gotten to the point of being financially impossible from a competitive stand point especially in markets where the patent holder is also a producer of a competitive product ie Panasonic and plasma tv's

Damn we have alot of big TV's...we went to get a 40" Bravia last year and came home with a 46" Sharp and have no regrets. We have the PS2 & PS3 hooked up to it with no problems. My wife just got me a 19" Vizio for the garage. So I'm in for the LCD...

JR, We bought ourselves a 52" Samsung LCD this year. I did a lot of research and found that while a lot of the industry says Plasma is still viable and way better than it used to be, it still made me nervous. Added to that, they are on the way to being obsolete technology. I didn't feel the added expense for the LED was worth it. I really can't tell that much difference. The thing to really watch for though is when you buy be sure to look at the model numbers, go online and read several different reviews. Some sites get paid by the manufacturers for their reviews so you have to read a cross section to get a clear picture (pun intended). Stores like Walmart and Target seem to have good prices but the units they carry are either last year's model or stripped down store versions. We got a high end tv (not the very top though)at Costco for not much more than Walmart wanted for the cheaper stuff. Costco also provides free customer help lines, a no hassle 90 day return policy and best of all two extra years on the manufacturers warranty on all their big screen HD tvs. Here's the one we got: LN52B610

Thanks Guys, I'm trying to figure out what to buy to replace my 15 year old Toshiba 35" tube TV.

You guys are no help..................LOL I'm as confused as ever

I think I will get a LCD, really thought about a Sony, but the guy at HH Gregg said the Samsung and Panasonic plasma would be best for color.

I doubt any of the new TV's will last the 15+ years my current TV has worked.

Everything I have read state the life will be between 5,000 + 10,000 hours

One new thing I seen at Best Buy this past week was the resolution or something like that, one TV was 80,000 and the next one that look just like it was 100,000 and seen one in th paper today that was only 15,000. I understand this will change the picture quality, but just how much do you need for a good picture?

Everyone used to say get a 1080, then it was a 1080P 120 hz, now 1080 p 240 hz LED or LCD

For the average TV veiwer is a 1080P 120 Hz LCD equal or better than the old tube TV?

I don't game, watch much sports or movies, mainly sitcoms and the news, not much rapid movement there.
1080p resolution with the 120 hz refresh rate is a GREAT TV. will be far superior to the 15 year old TV.

remember though, its all about the input signal. If you have High Definition cable or something, or a blue-ray player, or even a high def air signal..

I have a 52 inch 1080p 120 hz TV and LOVE it. everything is soo clear. Mine is a SHARP by the way.

I would definitely stay away from plasma though! LCD is suposed to be superior by all the research i did a year ago or so...

I actually started out at Best Buy looking for mine. They had run out of the Bravia they had on sale (2008) for 1399.00 and instead offered me a Sharp 46 at $1499., turned out they didn't have stock of that one either so I went to WalMart and found the same model number of Sharp and bought it for $889..

We were going to get the 52" Sony V series but the place we went was sold out and we didn't want the display model so we went to Costco and got a 46" Sony Bravia.
If it was any bigger we wouldn't have been able to get it home. It didn't fit in the trunk of the 66 so I had to take out the bottom of the back seat, put that in the trunk and the TV just barley fit with the doors closed!

LOL, It's kinda funny. We bought a big *** TV and we don't get any channels.

The TV cost more than the whole car! :angry7:

Nice! I didn't see the pictures before. I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Plus there is the added Costco warranty.

So far we love it (No TV channels just movies and vidiot games) I am having one issue. When I hook up the Philips DVD player (newer kind with a USB port on the front) to the TV via a HDMI ($40 for a friggin TV cable is retarded! ) the picture comes through all bright neon orange green and yellow like it was a early 90's minitruck. It works fine with standard RCA cables though.

I was walking through Best Buy last night. As I walked across the store they had 3 sets side by side. One was much brighter and clearer than the other two. One was a Sony Plasma, Sharp LCD and a Samsung LED. The Samsung was the brighter one which really stood out. As I toured the aisles, one spot was noticeably hotter. Yup.... plasmas on both sides. I back up a few feet and it's cooler - back to LCDs.

But now this is gonna change everything.....

I hope this doesn't keep changing every few years. It's frustrating and expensive. Maybe I'll just get the convergence chips swapped out on my 11 year-old 55" Toshiba rear projection for a couple hundred $$$ instead. :dontknow: I can't really afford another $3K for a tv until I'm working again. And I won't go smaller than 55" that's for sure.

LED, no question. I like Samsung, they're consistently at the forefront of technology when it comes to TV (not so much some other things they try to do).
