Sorry, but I am new to engines, cars and all this. I purchased a 68 Cuda months ago, charged her up, she started fine. Let her sit a few more months, charged her up, and now she stalls at idle, or won't idle. Sometimes keeping my foot on the gas keeps it running, sometimes not. I did a lot of web browsing/reading, and saw many different possibilities, but one that seemed to pop up often was maybe I had a non functional or dirty IAC. So, that being an inexpensive option I could check myself, I went looking, only I can't find anything on the web that helps me find it in my engine. Anyone have any tips?

I forgot to mention I replaced the battery, brand new as of yesterday, same problem. Blows no smoke.

452 big block , link to engine pictures should be in my sig, let's see

Newer cars will have an IAC (Idle Air Control) Yours will not. Could be a case of bad gas from sitting, a loose vacuum hose or just plain cold weather and a choke that isn't functioning correctly. Will it idle if you shoot some carb cleaner down the carb?

No I haven't, am brand new to engines...and I just put fresh gas in it a few days ago too.

If it won't idle, how do you spray carb cleaner down it while it idles.... I suppose I could have someone stay on the gas, but sometimes the engine shuts off even then.

iac valves are on new cars and normally go bad in hondas. a loose vacuum line is probably the cause

might have dirt in the idle cir inside the carb. to spray being the rpm up to 1000/1500 then spray inside the hole , also check and make sure the choke is working . if staying on will start nice but stall after warm up. als see u on facebook

Probably choke function related. Primary choke pull sticking or died even.
One of those Chilton or Haynes service manuals is worth its weight in gold.

h0tr0d's zip code shows he's in the Twentynine Palms area of SoCal. Any FABO members close enough to maybe give him a hand diagnosing his idle issue?

Nasty looking 'Cuda, Rod. By the looks of the photos, I don't think you'll find any choke setup on that carb. You're probably going to have trouble getting that engine to idle until it gets warmed up real good.

Don't forget to check your fuel filter.
Make sure the carb is tightened down that could cause a vacuum leak.
don't tighten too tight you could crush the gasket.

As was said a manual is a good thing to have. They are a good starting point.
It's nice to have so you don' have to run to look something up on the computer when you're in the middle of doing something.
It will help you get to know more about the workings of car too.
