The ideal location is the heel of the cam lobe and this is done that way as a over all setting.But if you look at the heel of a cam and when a lobe starts to open,as to when it closes,you have over 200 degress of closed operation,and if you have a cam under .500,you can still be way off and still set the valves the right way, even with the setting of the valves at TDC 1 then TDC 8 and so on.Its when you have a monster cam that you need to be dead on to get the right setting.Mrmopartech
