I am the proud new owner of a 1969 Barracuda 340-S convertible with a 4-speed transmission and factory air conditioning. There were a grand total of 100 1969 Barracuda Formula S convertibles made, 83 with the 340 and 17 with the 383. I am trying to start a registry of these extremely rare cars to see how many are left. I have found a couple of cars at various places on the web, but I don’t have any details on any of them except mine. If you own one of these cars, or know of someone who does, please contact me with information about the car and the owner.

My car was originally F5 green with a black stripe, a black top, and white bucket seats. It has manual steering and four wheel manual brakes. It currently is painted primer red and needs everything, but I hope to have it ready to go in about a year. Please help me track down these elusive fish!

Thanks, Phillip

My boss/friend has one. It's sunfire yellow with a sungold int & black top. We restored it in his garage, took about 4 years to get it done & finished it march of 01. It's a VERY early build car according to the vin seq. 340, 727, 3:23 8 3/4, non A/C,has P/S, P/B,disk,tach, pwr top. Was featured in Mopar Collectors Guide in late 01 & Mopar Muscle about a year or 2 later. Shoot me a PM & I could get you in touch with him. He loves to talk about the Bcuda, he just doesn't drive it much since it's been done.

I almost bought one in Wheat Ridge CO. apx. 10yrs ago from the original owner (little elderly lady) I'm sure it's still around. Here's what I know about the car: White, white top, Red/maroon Deluxe interior, 340, Auto on floor, A/C, P/S, fact. wire wheel hub caps, Red 340 upper body strip.
I'm still kicking myself in the *** for not latching on to that one....asking price 8K.

Looking through the Layson`s Restorations catalog I saw that Dave Layson owns a 69 B`cuda convertible 340-S w/AT console shift. Yellow with a black top and black interior. Unrestored stock w/79,000 miles.

I know of one in Bellevue, OH that is restored. I haven't been able to talk to the guy that owns it, but I believe it has a 383.

About 10 years ago I was at Carlisle and there was a man there named Tom Frenchek. He had the reputation of being THE Plymouth A Body guy. He had TWO 1969 383 Formula S convertibles there. One 4-speed and one automatic. Both needed total restoration but they were both real.

ive got a 69 formula s conv in my garage. its an auto with 83,000 miles never reg out of the state of washington.

I have a '69 340 cuda package fastback 4 speed, bronze fire mat. with a bench front seat. I read in a mag 15+years ago that it was 1 of 1 (Galin). Is there a web where I can ck this out at?

Thread back from the dead! Since you are new and this is your first post, WELCOME! Here is some friendly advice:

This thread was talking specifically about 69 Barracuda 340S convertibles, but since you are new here I will try and help you out...

There are sites like MyMopar, www.stockmopar.com/mopar-vin-decoder.php, and others out there that you can gather information about your car from. There is also a VIN decoder on this site and decoding your options can also be done here:

www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php

Here is a website that has 1969 Barracuda production numbers:
http://www.plymouthbarracuda.net/information/1969-barracuda-production.shtml

Check the links above to decode your fender tag as well (hopefully the car has one).

If you have an A56 car, it is a rare fish indeed. I personally can't tell you that it is 1 of 1. Not sure of what overall shape it is in, but I would recommend that you start a new thread in the Welcome Wagon section with some pictures of your car and introduce yourself and your car to members. I am sure that car in any condition will garner some responses from members here, and there is a vast amount of resident knowledge that can tell you most everything you would want to know. Generally speaking there is not much, if anything, that Galen can tell you about your car that people here can't as well. If you want Galen's stamp of approval, you have to be willing to pony up the cash (and various "options" to drill down to how many he has in his registry like yours, they all cost more money) and willing to wait an extended period of time to hear anything back.

The only way your car would be a 1 of 1 would be based upon the variety of options of the car (FB, Bronze Fire Metallic, 4speed, A56 with a bench seat). Is it possible? Perhaps. Either way, it sounds like a cool combo. My old 1969 Red NB A56 had a bench seat and was a "stripe delete" car...not sure how many bench seats A56s were out there in total, but when I had mine, I was curious.

Hopefully your car has that or the buildsheet that came with the car (and it belongs to your car. Check under the back seat as a start).

Either way, feel welcome, look around, ask questions and you will soon see this is the best A-body resource out there.

I know a guy here in San Diego who has two Formula S 1969 cars. One Fastback, One Convertible - both 383 cars......both have build sheets....both numbers matching.....both automatic cars.....

I would love to see some pictures of the convertible. That is one super rare fish.
