i am thinking about buying a 1995 dodge ram 2500 v-10.can you guys give me the pros and cons of thev-10? i dont care about mpg of gass.thanks

This is a strong engine. It's like a 360 with 2 more cylinders and a tad more stroke. 3.58 for the 360 and 3.88 for the V-10.
The aftermarket and even MoPar Performance have very little if not near nothing for the truck engine. Most mods for this are going to be a custom cam shaft regrind from someone, Comp Cams for example, your own head work and headers. I have not seen a intake for this though I don't know if the Vipers V-10 will swap.

There not the same engine....exactly.

Heres some quick specs; http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/8_0v10.htm

They were prone to head gasket leaks on the earlier models. I was looking for one myself and found about a half dozen still going strong around here at that time (about two years ago). The owners seemed to love them. Sorry not much help.

thanks for the info guys.im not looking to do any Performance upgrades i was just looking for a cheep tow truck/hunting truck.i just dont need anything that is going to give me a hard time.do you guys know how common the head gasket leaks where?thanks

I have a 96 dually with a v10 that I bought in 98 and have never had any trouble with it. Tows great and gets 15mpg on the highway when not towing. Never heard of the head gasket problem before.

Head gaskets were not a problem. some of the 94's had a recall for intake gaskets that would get sucked in and there were some of the early year trucks that had mystery coolant loss that was caused by heads cracking and venting the steam inside the valve cover then getting drawn in and burned through the pcv system. Very rare to see any engine failures on these. I would highly recommend them if wanting a gas engine in a 2500 or larger truck. Was very satisfied with my 98 but moved up to a diesel when my trailer size increased. :)
