Replace 273 with 318 poly and mechanical lifts

The 318 poly is actually a 318A while the "new" style 318 was the 318LA. Don't compare the 230hp rating of the poly to the 318 in the Jeep Cherokee. They are different ratings. The older poly rating is gross HP at the crank while the newer HP ratings after about 1972 were net ratings at the end of the transmission with all accessories on and operating. That is why some older motors have the higher ratings than newer ones.
