Thought it would be fun to start a thread sharing your experiences with Strangers concerning your A Body. Every time I am out in my car I usually have at least one encounter with a stranger concerning the car and 90% of the time it's a great experience. I especially like it when it sparks a story or memory from an old timer (I'm 35) that experienced these cars when they were in their heyday.

The other 10% of the time can be a bit weird or uncomfortable.

I'll start:

"Hey man, nice Mustang, I used to have one"
"A 273? But it sounds like a v8"
"I had a 64 back in the day but mine had a factory Hemi"
"I had a convertible this same year but it was blue"
"That's not a Barracua."
"That's not a 66', I had a 66'"
"My old Camaro, mustnag, blah blah blah would blow the doors off this POS"-as they get in their minivan.

Jamison's Duster: "nice Nova."

My E-body: "What year Camaro is that?"

My Ramcharger: is never a Ramcharger. It's a Bronco or a Blazer.

The always famous line about my Sport Satellite four door: "you should pull the 383 4bbl, put it in a two door, and clone a Road Runner." #-o

But you're right: the other 90% of experiences are fun and enjoyable.

I was telling a guy about my GTX while gassing up the Dart and he says "To bad its not a Road Runner, then it would be worth some real money".#-o#-o That's a double do'h.

Then there was the guy who I showed under the hood on the 340 and he says "To bad you don't have the rest of the air induction". I guess he never looked under the hood of a 340 Swinger.

i work with retired folks they really like the 66 when i take it 2 work.
but when i gas it up ,the younger people don't know what it is they comment 2 each other, and finally ask ,i tell them it's a backaruda they just laugh.

It's good to be an "OLD TIMER" most of us drove our cars
in all weather conditions I don't know how we did it but we
did.I like Mopars because uinless you have an E body
alot of people don't have a clue what it is and chances are
your the only one at an event with one.I pulled up next to
a newer Z car the other day with my 71 Demon.A young lady
was driving it and asked if I wanted to race and I said what
would the winner get and she said anything I wanted.
For now on the wife stays home when I get the Demon out and
I've been searching for that Z car with no luck.
It's good to see you "young punks" get into these cars

When I still had a 318 In my car years ago a guy with a bigger Mopar with a 360 can't recall early 70's Bbody told me "318's are ok but you can't do anything with them" replied nothing but beat boats with 360's his car wasn't very nice thats why got pissy, had young guy ask me once whats in there about a "350"lol D

I had a drunk jerk at the gas station ask me why I put that "Stupid bubble window" on the back of my car because "it looks f'in stupid". I nodded towards his Girlfriend or wife that was pumping his gas and said "it's for when I lay your ol' lady down in the back we can look at the stars.", then gave her a wink. She laughed and told him to quit causing trouble.

When I was younger I guess I was around the cars too much cause I never thought of them as being so valuable.... for instance I paid $1800 for my Duster 340 in 1990. I was at the Woodward dream cruise back in 95 or 96 and there was a crowd in front of my car so I climbed up and sat on the roof to watch the action. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BE LYNCHED! lol I couldnt figure out what the big deal was and hell ITS MY CAR! lol I had several people question me and one tell me I did not deserve such a valuable car...$1800?? really???

The Guy behind the counter at Autozone told me they never made a Dodge Charger in 1966.I laughed an said what is that as I point out the big window at the front of the store.

MY 66 Charger was called a Duster,Challenger,Nova,Impala,Torino,Marlin.

My 73 Dart Sport was called a Nova more than a Dart or Duster.

I could not even sell my 69 1/2 Road Runner in 2005.Everyone asked to trade it for rusty 318 cars, other junk cars, or give me 10K less than I was asking.I was about ready to just say F*** it and keep it,when a Guy gave me asking price $22.5K

My 68 Coronet was called a Charger,GTO,Skylark,Challenger.

When I had my 69 1/2 Road Runner everyone always asked when are you going to paint the hood and get some wheels .

The first time I saw a Superbird 1984 I laughed at it and said to my Father who would do that to a Road Runner.Well I was only 14 and was at my second Mopar show.....Now who's laughing? Not I.

About four years ago I had my car out for one last cruise in October. I was heading down a street when a lady (who did not even speak English) runs me off the road into the centre median. I get out ready to let this idiot not paying attention have it! Get to the car see it is a little East Indian women , now terrified, and her daughter who did speak English frantically apologizing. Apparently mom only had had her licence for a couple of weeks in her new country. Ok no worries I calmed down and calmed her down...NOW an elderly lady walking by see this and starts yelling at me they you young punks with your loud fast cars should all be in jail. That we have no respect for anyone on the streets. That hit my nerve, But my parents raised me to respect my elders. I looked at her and said just move on you no nothing about what happened. She keeps muttering at me, finally I say "Isn't it time for your Geritol shooter?" she looks at me and storms off! I tried but there comes a time when your patience runs sits course!

AAHAAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!! Now THAT is funny!!!!!!!

Though I've owned and been working on my Cuda for over 19 years, it admittedly hasn't seen much road time.

One of our great members here, Tony Fields, recently made up some really cool business cards for me featuring my old Limelight hot rod. I'd told my insurance agent about the car before but he's never seen it, so when I went in to pay the homeowners / auto coverage the other day I whipped out one of the cards and laid in on the counter.

"What is that, a Nova?"

:boxing: :poke: :crybaby: :sign3:

I know it's happened to a lot of you guys before but this was my first. Everybody who's seen the car in person already knew what it was ... felt like I got gut kicked.

I pointed to the half-inch high "Plymouth Barracuda" lettering at the top of the card, put it back in my wallet and left.

Every time I take an old shell of a car that I'm finished parting out to the scrap yard near my house, I ALWAYS get the same question from the loader driver..."What year Nova is that??" I tell him the same thing every time..."a '78". Geof

In Ottawa, you learn to avoid the "red plates" like the plague..

Anyway, at a car show last year, I was about ten cars down and one up..I could see my car clearly.., I guy walked up to my car, said he didn't like side pipes in a loud voice...then kicked the driver side one...I couldn't believe it !..saw me coming at him..and left the car show quickly..

My daughter get a lot of questions at school asking what it is..and when she is gassing it up or driving it, gets a lot of positive attention..especially from other MOPARs...the other day, while gassing it up, an older man came up and asked a bunch of questions which she answered..told her she had a fantastic car and to take care of it..

I hope my daughter appreciates things like that when she gets that age Grassy. Sounds like she has a great head on her shoulders.

All true stories...

Guy at the grocery store parking lot, looking at my Duster, says, "I had a car just like this one, except it was a Road Runner."

Guy looks under my open hood in the staging lanes at the track, sees my little 650 Holley DP carb, and says to his buddy, "Those are them rare six pack carbs." I'm standing right by the car and it didn't even occur to him that I was the owner.

Guy asks me if my Duster has a cam in it. I say yup...and it even has lifters.

My '76 Volare Roadrunner got called a Nova more times than I can count.

My '68 Super Bee was constantly called a Charger. Then one night while cruising with a friend of mine, as I was rolling up to a red light there was a couple walking along the sidewalk. As I stopped, the woman points and yells, "look at that old boat!". *sigh*

The Demon has lots of attitude. So far it hasn't been insulted. :-D

Mine gets labelled "Muscle Car" a lot, probably because of the stripes and the exhaust note. I usually tell people it's just a "cruiser" and not really "Muscle Car" but that usually gets me a look like I am a giant ******.

I also get cool guys at stop lights with "How much you want for it? Is it for sale?". I usually reply "Everything is for sale man. Whatcha got?". $10,000 was the only real offer. The rest were always excuses.

I've already gotten several bad responses in the short time since i bought my 73' duster. I'll start with my favorite when i first brought up the idea of getting one to a friend:

"A duster?(*looks around*), but thats a black person's car".(followed by a lot of backpedaling when i explained that my father had one around my age)

I've yet to figure out the criteria for that comment or what even makes a valid stereotype statement or even why its bad thing of my car is popular with black folks? As you might guess, that friend is a bit racist. He objects to Obama being president based solely on his skin color.(no joke)

Then my friend who is the typical corvette tool. I got crap all the way until i bought the car because in his opinion i should have blown my savings on a C5 vette. Or at the very least an early C3 corvette that i barely fit into. And after i bought the car he started some serious **** when he compared my car to a late 70s ford LTD. What it comes down to for him is that i didnt lump myself into being a chevy-only tard. If i had bought a 60s ford mustang(other car i was interested in) i would have gotten the same crap.

Its sad when people can't appreciate other brands of cars. IMO if any company puts out a nice sports car then i'm interested.

I think my Challenger is called something other than a Challenger about 90% of the time. :angry7: Most of the time its "nice Charger", which wouldn't be so annoying if someone didn't call it a Charger every single stinking day! Next after that I'd have to say Camaro (a close second too), then Mustang as a distant third. Surprisingly enough it gets called a Camaro or a Mustang far more often than it gets called a Barracuda.

My all time favorite was when a guy at the coffee shop called it a Cougar. A COUGAR. I mean, really? If you know that little about cars, can't you just say "nice car" and leave it at that?

The Dart's aren't on the road yet, so this thread is pretty helpful, at least I'll know what to expect when I start driving them! :-D

Hey Grassy, you gotta sweet daughter. 1 cuz she is into mopar and 2 shes about my age. ;D lol I know I know. :( but I can dream right!!! haha anyways I dig the car.

Here's one for you guys. Me and my dad took my Duster to Lordco Auto Parts in the not-so-good part of Surrey a few months ago. I'm sitting there while he went inside. Some guy walks by and his exact words 'Oh man, that's a sweet old Dodge Dart. I'd love to steal that thing and go for a ride'. I didn't say anything.....I just looked at him with a WTF look on my face.

two guys walk past my car, stop look at it, one turns to the other and says "man thats ugly... but I like it"
