65 Power Wagon, what's it worth?
Not an A body, but I need your guys' opinions on what this 65 W300 (1 1/4 ton) Power Wagon is worth.
It is a 318 4 speed 4x4, sitting on 40" bias ply army tires with 20" rims. New: 2 bbl carb, fuel pump, starter, master brake cylinder, master clutch cylinder, battery. It WAS a long box, but he cut the frame down, and made it a short box. The frame itself is rust free though.
The tail gate is rusted through, the box has a few rust patches in the bed, there is bubbling under the paint on the box, the cab floors are shot, the front cab mounts are non existant.
The tail lights and headlights aren't working, but there is brake lights and turn signals. All gauges work. The engine itself fires up and runs great, no smoking, no knocking, etc. Has a fuel leak going into the fuel pump, claimed the threaded fitting didn't sit in properly.
It's got some old hand crank winch on it.
Dana 70 front and Dana 60 rear, with 4.88 gears.
When you get up to 40MPH, the front end shakes bad, back and forth, but he hasn't tried getting past the wobble at a higher speed, said he was too nervous to. He thinks it is because the drag link, being a solid bar, needs a shock fabricated onto it, to absorb that wobble, but I believe it could also be the bias plys being out of balance, or a loose part somewhere like tie rod end, etc.
Now.. he wants $4000 for the truck alone, and said he won't go any lower, but that sounds like quite a bit too much for me, correct me if I'm wrong though.
He also has, for $1500 more..
- 1 W300 rolling frame with a work box that dumps like a dump truck.
- 1 W300 rolling frame with a dead 318 auto, a ratty flat deck, but a totally mint cab. Underside is totally rust free, cab mounts are good, floors are perfect, etc.
*Both rolling frames had Dana 60's and Dana 70's*
- 67 383 auto (said it was running when pulled, but thats his word against mine).
- 4 grills, all for different years of Sweptlines
- Power wagon original bumper with built in winch
- All kinds of drum brake parts, extra drums, shoes, etc.
- Extra set of HD leaf springs
- Inner fenders, random body parts, etc.
Claims he lost his job, and that the wife just wants the stuff out of the driveway, so.. said he would sell me the running truck for $4000 and would let me take the other stuff away, and when I got the extra $1500 I could pay him that at a later date.
I really don't think the truck itself is a $4000 buy, and can't see myself paying $5500 for all 3.. that just seems a bit steep for me. Am I wrong here though?
