87 318 build question

Fellas,
Searched the site but couldn't find the answer to the following question:
Can I install an aftermarket hydraulic cam in a stock roller cam 318 ('87)? Of course, I'll be using hydraulic lifters rather than the rollers...

Would the roller lifters still work?

Thanks!
Patrick

In addition, the rollers should not be used on the Hyd. cam. The cam has tapper on the lobe so designed to get the Hyd. lifter to rotate for best/even wear.
The roller cam does not have a taper. IMO, I would look into a roller cam for your engine. It does cost more, but the cam would provided super long life, broader torque and more HP. Purchase springs to match. You'll be ahead of the game this way.
Get it custom ground from Comp or Crane to suite the need and specs of the engine for no more than a few pennies extra over the "Off the shelf cam."
