Please explain/define better what you mean by "sounds as if it's barely in and feels almost like it's slipping", are you saying that it feels like the clutch is slipping? What rear gear ratio are you running? Did you install a new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel? If you used a worn or old unknown condition pressure plate assembly, or if you have a rear main seal leaking oil then yes it is likely slipping, highway gears like 2.72's or 3.23's will make this much more obvious, where as 3.91's or 4.11's etc. tend to hide it a little more. Really need a better explanation of the troubles your having though to really try to help diagnois the problem.

Hey all,
Thanks for all the interest in my problem. I guess since I have a little more time I'll get you some background info. The clutch/pressure plate and flywheel assembly is all brand new. All of the linkage is brand new as are the wear items like bushings and springs. The drive shaft was cut, balanced and new u-joints installed just two weeks ago. I'm running a sad, sad 2.76 rear end. It is an 8 3/4 at least. Soon to be changed when the correct piece is located. The trans is a later model aluminum case o/d unit from a Dodge Truck :the shifter is a Hurst competition Plus. As I mentioned in my original post: reverse, first, second and third are all A OK in sound and operation. Nice positive feel and crisp engagement of the clutch with gobs of pull in these three gears. Now comes fourth... I've checked the tab itself and made sure it was engaged before test driving... no question about it. But while driving, when fourth is engaged it sounds noisy(not "i'm going to fall apart all over the street" noisy) but just a little noisy. Fourth; and only fourth feels like it's not engaging all the way into gear. This is not possible because i checked it under the car at the lever ten times! Also feels as if the car has absolutely no power. Is this because the o/d coupled with my rear end gears are giving me basically a final drive of 2.00 :1? Could the rear bearing be bad in the trans and only show in fourth? I'm puzzled! :sad1: :cussing:

This is my first adventure into 4 speed land so cut me some slack if i sound nuts OK? I am nuts but that's beside the point.
