Poorly repaired fender and tire clearance questions
It's been setback after setback to get my darn rims and tires mounted... I'll spare you the details and cut straight to the latest setback.
My 1970 duster has had some bodywork done to it due to a couple minor accidents by the previous owner (I don't know the full details). Among this is a repair to the front right fender, which you can see from the engine bay that something has been done to it. Now, I put my new tires on, 215/70/14 (replacing 195/70/14) on the front and now the front right tire hits on turns and bumps.
My friend who is helping me with this car brought up the question of whether this is even the original fender- he thinks it is from a different car. I haven't had time to take closeup pictures of the fender and the clearance but can anyone infer from this picture if the fender appears correct? It has a valiant tag and a chrysler emblem that has been painted over. It does not have a duster tag but I figured they just painted over it like they did with the chrysler emblem. Also, I noticed that the rubber molding on the sides do not match. The right side has chrome trim and the left side does not.
If it is determined that the fender is not a correct fender, I'll be replacing it... I want my car to be correct. Regardless, to make the car drivable right now with the new tires, can anyone tell me the most proper way to fix my clearance issue? I don't just want to take a grinder or hammer to this thing, I want to do it right and make it nice. But I don't have the money to take it to a real professional- and taking it to someone cheap is probably what caused this issue in the first place.
