wondering if a non a body rear can be made to fit, and if a non posi can become a posi thanks

Alot of people use B-body 8 3/4,s,mostly in Demo/Duster/Dart Sport,s.The center section(chunk)will interchange amongst all 8 3/4,s.

Yes and yes again....LOL I have a '68 B-body housing in my 68 A-body Barracuda. All I did was move the spring perches inboard 1/2" each side to be correct for the A-body mounting provisions...From center hole to center hole in the spring pads on an A-body is 43 inches. The B-body is 44 inches...And the term "posi" is a chevy word...The "correct mopar" term to use is "sure grip" :)

Yes, you just need the Sure Grip unit and new bearing to make it a posi. And yes, the Sure Grip unit will work in all three cases: 741, 742, 489

thanks for reminding me of the politically correct term, A Body gm is what i was raised with, ill have the first A body mopar in the shop :) im twizztedd

okay you guys are great how about a center section rebuild kit? or sure grip rebuild kit?

Hey nothing wrong with GM, as long as it's American is ok in my book. Though I do own an 02 GTR but thats different and a long story.

yeah, i mean we've been building a 71 chevelle ss 454 with 520 horse that went to paint and body today, i race the highschool 70 nova and im going into my freshman year. also have a 10 second primer 55 chevy, and 9 second 70 nova 565 cubes 800 horse that ive been around forever.

Yea, my first car is a 1972 Chevelle SS which I got from the original owner. Plus I still have it (how many people you know still have their very first car?). Buy that 489 case! What gears if any come with it?

3.23.... my pops has had his 66 nova 3 times now our friend has it and is running 11s again

I got that same gear set, I use it for my street driving and swap out to 3.91 for track use. I got my rebuild kit from drivetrain_parts off ebay great kit no problems and that kit uses the Timken bearings. Also I upgraded to Green Bearings so I can run rear disc brakes.

I love the 66-67 Nova body styles.

oh so i should keep them gears? street/strip dart sport/demon 440 that has to run at least 11s so im thinkin at least 500 horse or pops will have us re do it.

I have two 489 cases both SG, I use the 3.23. for street use and switch to the 3.91 to run at the track. However if you can get the 742 case get it, it's still a strong case. With that being said though I would use the 742 for street and 489 for racing. But if you find a 741 with SG get it. You can take the SG unit out and put it in any of the other cases. But I would only do that if it's the clutch style SG.

A Ford 8" out of a Maverick or Granada bolts right in. Some have limited slip and are 5x4.5. Just an option since 8-3/4 housings in A/B/E forms have gone up, at least in my area.

You would need to have the any NON original A Body rearend be cut down to fit in the A Body.

I just picked up a B or E body rear end to fit it into my 74 swinger I just have to move the perches in? no cutting the shadfts?
