Went through and read this old thread from the start. Stupid me, I didn’t take my own advice.
I swapped to better heads, and saw only modest gains, keeping my 1 5/8 Doug’s headers.
I later bought a set of American racing headers, because I suspected they would pick the car up quite a bit...
I just posted my personal results and the gains I saw on a small block stroker. Have to disagree with you, his car will love the 1 7/8 header a lot more than 10 horsepower. I saw nearly 40 horse gain with doing nothing but switching headers.

I recently swapped headers on my 418 stroker. Went from Doug’s 1 5/8 headers with 3 inch mufflers, to 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 step headers with same mufflers off of them.
The difference was dramatic, and at that point, that was the only change.
Based on the Et slips, difference was roughly 40 horsepower...
On a 69 stripe delete car, is there supposed to be a GTS emblem on the lower front fenders behind the tires?
Saw one like that for sale on Facebook. Owner said stripe delete cars only come that way.

Been in the 7’s currently with a stout big block in the 1/4 on motor. Car is very light.
Years back he had a b1ba headed small block stroker in it. Ran 9.06-9.07 best maybe couple hundreds quicker, but consistently right around there.

Guess I could tape a plastic straw that extends 2 inches above the vent tubes on the carb and see if it bends when I close the hood
Actually I think a lot of guys at the 600 ish horsepower level would be players for a cheaper aftermarket block, something like the X block type offering was.
Now such guys are making do with factory blocks.
Well aware of the Ritter blocks. Which is why I said I wish there were MORE options.
To my knowledge, that is the only option currently.
There are tons of head options, basically one block option.
I don’t even think it was so much speedmaster as it was etching the name on the copy like the original was.
After seeing different posts on Facebook about it, I finally watched the video by the trans brake guy and agreed with him 100%.
Personally, I would rather see somebody offer another block...
