I Need Engine Experts! 340 Roller Lifter and Pushrod Issue

Glad to entertain the question - here is my take on it: It is absolutely NOT a "frequent valve adjustment" issue. Done (and tightened properly), they last for years with minimal work required. I have a high lift solid lifter car I haven't had to touch for 5 years so far. In this case with the...

8 3/4 spitting gear oil out of breather vent

I have just taken my Dart out for another test drive to break in the new rear end after swapping the 7.25 rear end for an 8.75 rear end. Everything is new, including the breather vent, except for the housing of course. Not sure what year A body the housing came from, but it had a vent on it when...

My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

Yeah I'd rather have the bushing, I went and looked at all the options for the LS T56 and did find that there is a bushing made by one manufacturer so it's not out of the question to use one. Like there's no reason why it can't be a bushing that I can think of but I didn't want to install a...

    Wilwood front kits 69 Barracuda

I run EBC red brake pads, 7/8 rear wheel cylinders, and pressure bleed my system. I do need to bleed them every two years or so to keep a firm pedal. If you pressure bleed you can get a firm pedal. And periodic bleeding can get very long caliper life. Mine brakes pretty good and its manual...

Center drag link, are they really $600? 1964 dart

But have you not heard the Good News? It's permanently 1981! Showroom-perfect low-miles Darts and Valiants can be picked up for $2,000, any parts you might need are in stock at any parts store or dealer, the wrecking yards are full of dirt-cheap used parts, and it's going to stay that way for...

    My 340 getting 6 mpg

16 for a 440 is pretty good. Too bad the OP isn't getting that. Speaking of the op, he needs to forget about mileage until things get broken in and loosened up. In the meantime, look at some simple things like make sure the choke is open and pull a few plugs for a look see. That bad of mileage...

Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

I try to make things look good as well.. Sanitary. I don't mind some wiring that can be seen, as long as it's not a rats nest. The half covers help tuck away things that you just can't completely hide.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I'd love to see that too, stroked 340 but the tooling costs alone would be astronomical! There are not as many people as you would think interested in 340's anymore since the Gen 3 Hemi's became so popular in A-Body transplants. This conversion is getting cheaper and easier to do every year.

    Alignment Help

The Fastraxx is a bubble set up, it works just like the hub gauges but with the different attachment points. Getting it solidly attached to the wheel is definitely part of the learning curve, and some of that depends on the wheel itself and what the lip/spoke design kind of looks like. If the...

My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

Thanks. I remember looking up part you used showed bushing. Silver Sport sent me a bearing so I put it in. But lot of ppl like bushings cause no way for them to fail like a bearing. Doesn't your throw out spaces rattle at idle? Mine do when engine cold seems to go away when car warmed up...

I've never dealt with the huge T-bar, they're nearly 1/2" wider/thicker, - are they? I've been lead to believe TTIs are a little different than the Doug's I usually install, - quit TTI back 2000 cuz of the rust issues that I couldn't warranty. Had I twigged you were doing 4 speed, I woulda...

    My 340 getting 6 mpg

MPG is tough. My right foot dictates. 16 MPG is the best I can get on very modest highway driving. Stockish 440 4-speed B-body running Dana 3.54:1 with talker 28" rear tire. But just a couple fun thumps on the pedal and suddenly drops to high single digits. Or worse if nonsense continues. Lol...
