Thanks all. I can't believe how "green" has grown on me! It just looks good. As for the heads, the covers were glued on when they put the engine together! So, I'll wait until the inspection is done, drive it a bit and then maybe yank the covers. For now, I'll be wondering.

Getting fed up of high-perf , being happy with less

I’m toning mine down a bit as well. It’s still capable with the 5.9, 42rh overdrive and 3.55 sure grip, but adding AC recently feels like it’s turning it more cruiser.

Solid lifter initial valve lash adjustment

Yes, same method with slightly more clearance to allow for thermal expansion of the valve components. Most lash specs list hot/cold values. 65'

oil filters what do u use and why

I spoke with John at Jomar at length about filters. I had a question and he took the time to educate me about filters. Next best choice to a Jomar filter per John is Motorcraft due to a higher bypass pressure.

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

If you're on Facebook, look up Sam Bledsoe. He's in central California and has a very unmolested LRE, which I seem to recall being a '79. He's been around these '72-80 truck for a long time and has parted out many.

Solid lifter initial valve lash adjustment

so I have read how to set solid lifter valve lash hot. But on an initial set up how to you set the lash cold before the first fire to get them close? Is it the same method as hot then tweak them in after the engine gets to operating temp?
