How do the venturi and throttle bore sizes compare between the 850 and 950 you've tried? I've found that 850 carbs usually have larger venturis and maybe larger throttle bores than some 950s.

Do do your conversion, I'd put a factory 64-65 Hurst shifter on the floor. The easiest is to find a 64-66 slant six bell housing and a small front bearing O/D transmission or have one convert one for you. Next would be to use a newer O/D bellhousing and a standard large bearing O/D...

I am running a FiTech EFI dual 4 setup and control the fuel with it. At idle my afr is 14 to 1. At cruise not under boost I go to 13 to 1. When under boost it is 11 to 1. This is a pretty rich setup that helps to cool everything down. I also run my temps at 156 degrees. The only time it goes...
