One eve early '87, a friend & I went to a record & musicians store in Donaldson's Crossroads, then ran up to Heads Together for a bit of shopping. He left His Datsun, & We were rollin' in the Thunderbooger, for 'extra' entertainment. Once Home, He got in His ride & We were talkin' about the band...

Builders: Square engine, Over Square, or Under Square for you?

    I think a +.020" 383 w/a 3.5" has a 1.88 rod/stroke w/stk. rod length. Still a bunch of slug, even with some decking....

He just runs right over old farm tractor

We're not talkin' mound roundin' here, by all appearances, that shoulder/berm looked fairly level...."not knowing what's up-road"....is what it means....there very well may have been good reasons He wasn't on the shoulder, or just had a foolish trust that a totally inattentive douche wouldn't...

    360 vs 383

It may be a '74 model, the only change to the car was They swapped out the 8.25" for a 8.75" rear, & ran 3.23's. I have the rear out of that car, & haven't even looked at what ratio was in it, lol!! Stk was 2.9X's iirc. I checked w/them & it ran 14.40's w/3.55's sooo....

What is the horse power benefits

That's not gonna be so easy, many modern cars are putting out enough hp/ci, that Your 'teener'd have 457hp. That's NA, they're runnin' 13:1 on pump regular, sooo I'd set the dial on 'FUN' & roll...the plus for You is most new cars are heavy by comparison.

    360 vs 383

I would bet the 383 was saddled w/a 625cfm AVS, the TQ&Intake on the SB was far superior, betting with cam regs & starving for air the 383 didn't have a chance.

    360 vs 383

For sure, I know somebody that has run a bone stock '73 360 Duster many many times, best times in good air 14.80-14.90's.

New Mancini Timing Cover Fitment Issue

I kinda figured, but I've always had the right parts for the engine & same for the kits, so the rear seal is only change to them. Hoping I don't have to shop a new cover soon apparently.....

New Mancini Timing Cover Fitment Issue

Anyone smarter than a box of rocks can make pattern off of a good or 'repaired' cover & cast an exact replica, that means they changed it on purpose, or they laser scanned it to make the pattern & something was off in the transfer.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Yeah, I knew a few who did that, I got My IM license '85....always did My own. Funny one, before I put the PurpleShaft 284°/.484" in the '66 383, it sniffed clean for an '83 318 Diplomat.....passed with flying colors w/a 3310 750 on it, lololol...

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

To answer that question, it's done by the mfrs., Chevy C010 blocks are large main 4" bore blocks. For everything from the 302" Z engine to HD blocks in trucks, so yeah, they do.......

Solid rollers with off set push rod hole issue.

I was curious to see the position & progression of the spalling pattern on a 'mirror offset' lobe. That's not a ton of lube, I'd run that past the grinder for input, best of luck & keep Us posted...

Also, even tho' Your pic presents the lift side of #8 intake, I can see #7 looks bad as well. Could You post a pic of the lift side of #7 for Us?

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Oh, You can be sure there has been, just not Nick's or the like....the teams doing it had a reason for doing so, would the avg. Rodder benefit?....not enough to justify the $$$$ for sure.

I think it was a worthwhile investment, in the end, it'll run great & have more value as such.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

???? The Cleveland engine was the performance alternative to the Windsor period. If You mean swapping a crank w/Cleveland size bearings, & spacer/shim shells, yes, there is less friction. The 360 was designed ground-up as a cast crank unit, & in typical over-engineering fashion, Mopar probably...

Carter AVS 4611s too far gone ?

Doubtful, the amount of dissimilar metal corrosion present will mean the jets & rods are junk, & in no way will be what they 'were'. I did a mid-'80's Q-Jet in a Dodge conversion van, 360 that actually had been running, the corrosion inside had actually removed the jet size stamping on one of...
