    Oil additives

I have used Ford type "F" transmission fluid in my 727's for years without issues. It has an additive. Ford had a "BETTER IDEA" with that.

    1973 360

The early 360's had the "J" ( 2.88-1.60) heads, but were only in the two BBL form. Mostly in trucks.

Looking for the way of old school

They had the small bucket seats out of the vans and no rear seating. The odd thing was, all the 68 Hemi Darts I seen, had carpeting.

I believe the V10 is a takeoff from the SB, not BB.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I didn't bring that up USP4U did. I just made a comment to his R3. Sorry wrong motor, I was referring to the RX motors, not R motors. Must be an age thing.

An R2 and R3 are Mazda motors back in the early 70's. Rotary motors.

Is 20W-50 too heavy for my 340?

Every app. is different. There is no one answer. A all-out race car, I would use a thinner oil, as you say, but I would also use a High volume oil pump, which would also mean a deeper pan.

I backhand the rims and check for abnormal heat.

Is 20W-50 too heavy for my 340?

On one of my older 340's years ago, I ran 10W40, to 100,000 miles, then changed to 20W50, until 175 miles, then went to 50W, until I blew it up. By changing the oil viscosity as the motor aged, it kept the oil pressor up as needed. The reason a good oil gauge is important. I run 20W50 on my...

How many of you grease your own trailer axles?

Ii Truck and vans, one ton and HD3/4 tons with the Dana 60's also use the rearend oil as a lubricant, not grease. Whenever you turn a hard left or right the oil is sent to the bearings.

    Swinging for Divorce…

So true!!!! You have to view the whole picture. I was looking to move to a far away location and sold my shop. I had a lot of Mopar items and tried to sale as a "LOT", it did not work out. I then looked into renting a storage room, the cost was $400.00 a month, for a year, that I needed. So my...

8 3/4 spitting gear oil out of breather vent

Had Dana 60's and 8 3/4. and always used my finger as a guide on filling. If my finger touches the fluid, I'm good to go. I have heard that some people raise the rear end when filling, don't. Another clue about overfilling, is fluid coming out of the axle tube at the seals.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

We are in the same age frame, I'm 68 and still having fun with my 340's. Sonny and Ronny Sox, Don Garlets and Darrell Gwynne were regulars at our annual show in Hollywood, Florida. Galen Govier showed the first few years and put on a Judging class for our judging staff. I was one of 11 to...

I believe it was all about the "long" stroke for a work truck. The slant 6's did well, with its long stroke. I had a 67' Dodge HD w/ the slant 6 and grainy gear and it was a work horse.

The club I help start in 87' had the same issue with Mother Mopar. We finally did get permission to use the Pentastar in our club Logo. We also new some big shots then. Times sure have changed.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Are not the molds still around from the original 340 blocks? My understanding, all the 340 blocks were from the same casting molds. 68'- 73'. Where are they? Finding them would cut the cost down from starting from scratch. Maybe offer the "TA" (4 bolt main) instead of the light weight 340.

I'm no expert on this topic, but why could you not sleave a 318 block with 340 sleaves?

    More nonsense from NHRA Tech

    My 340 getting 6 mpg

My van with a 340 get 10 (3.55 gear) and my 69 Dart gets around 12-14 (3.23 gear), depending on the fun I want. Cold running and just around town, maybe brakes dragging a little, could be a couple of issues. Should get better than 6, unless you are having a lot of fun. Also maybe a little clutch...

    [WANTED] A Body Rad #2898033

I had a three-core radiator done for $100.00, in 1976. LOL I say find a set of good 22' tanks and have them recorded. An AC car should have 3 core tanks. Look in Florida, where are the AC cars were sent back then.

340 stock manifold to header adapter question

I had a different issue. Had a set of Appliance headers back in the 70's, that had a reduction cone to 2", but I want a full 2.5 exhaust to the rear. I threw the cone in the trash and had a local shop weld the 4 bolt flange to the head pipe, to the rear. Now I had a full 2.5 exhaust and it was...
