    18" Subaru WRX Wheels?

The Enkei RPF1’s are very light. When I first installed them I weighed them vs the 15x7” Mopar police wheels I had been running with 225/60/15’s. Despite running 275/35/18’s on 18x9’s that combo was over 4 lbs lighter than the cop wheels with 225’s, and the 295/35/18’s on 18x10” RPF1’s were...

    1973 duster rear bumper

This thread covers some of it if you have shock mount bumpers, plus it has a few links to the work I did on my own ‘74 Duster to put the earlier, non shock mounted bumper on the rear of the car. 1974 Duster rear impact bumper(remove, reinstall bumper without it)

    18" Subaru WRX Wheels?

Sure thing, buying stuff secondhand can be an adventure for sure. But all the cars I listed, the Z cars, mustangs, and Infinity G35/37’s are all options, same as the WRX’s. Some are better than others for specs, but that can even depend on the options on the car.

    1973 duster rear bumper

That would be a ‘74 bumper with shock mounts, which is a completely different thing than a ‘73 bumper. You can collapse the impact cylinders and move that bumper closer to the body, but it will overhang the quarters and have a strange gap there. Or you can remove the bumper and its mounts...

    1973 duster rear bumper

The rear bumpers on a Duster are dimensionally identical from 1970-1973, and none of those used shock mounts. One or more of those years has slots in the bumper for a different bumper jack attachment, but other than not being “correct” for a certain year they all interchange. For that...

    18" Subaru WRX Wheels?

Typically the Subaru wheels are in the +40 to +45 mm offset range, which is a bit on the high side for an A-body. With an 18" wheel and an 8" or 8.5" width it would work though, especially with a B-body rear although with those kinds of offsets a 68-70 would be better than the 65-67. It would...

    18" Wheel help

A 255/40/18 should work fine, again, maybe a small spacer needed. A 245/40/18 should work in the front, that would about the maximum for fender clearance with that set of rims

    Hot or not?

The back will work fine if you’ve got an A-body 8 3/4 with BBP axles. No big deal. In the front you can easily run a 15x7 with up to 4.5” of backspace, no idea what AJ is talking about. Mopar police wheels are 15x7, 4.25” backspace and fit great. With a 15x7” and 4.75” of backspace it will be...

    Wheel Adapters

First, I’m not “anti-adaptor” at all, that’s just BS. There’s nothing wrong with running quality billet adapters, and I’ve done it myself. I literally said adapters are fine if they’re good quality. Second, comparing cast aluminum wheels to those cast aluminum adapters is nonsense. Cast...

Is this a thrust button and can it be removed?

Yeah they’re burly, very nice pieces. I’ve had mine for a bit so I can’t say if they’re in stock right now, but I have ordered a couple sets and have never had an issue getting them

Solid strut rod bushing on stock strut rods...good idea?

Delrin is a no go for strut rod bushings. As already mentioned, they have movement in multiple axes so while you want them to be stiff to resist forward/aft movement on the LCA you also still need them to flex to track the up/down movement of the LCA. Otherwise you’d lock out your suspension...

Is this a thrust button and can it be removed?

DoctorDiff has everything, he even sells heavy duty billet adjusters for the tapered bearings. Overkill for street use but a nice upgrade if you’re doing AutoX or road race stuff. Some of it is a little harder to find on his website, it used to be the only way to find the heavy duty adjusters...

    Wheel Adapters

Hub centric is nice, but unnecessary. The most important thing to remember is that you have two sets of lug nuts, and they both need to be re-torqued on the same intervals. Just like a new aluminum wheel there’s a regular schedule for doing that. Except with an adapter you have to pull the...

    18" Wheel help

So I think they’ll work, in the front if you go past a 245 wide tire they’ll end up sticking out too far (farther than my 275’s). In the back you’ll probably need a small spacer to clear the springs. But for a compromise to run the same rim front and back that’s about as close as it gets.

    Wheel Adapters

Those are straight garbage. Absolute trash. It’s not a question of whether or not they will crack, it is only a question of when. There’s not enough cast material there to provide the strength needed to support those studs. Adapters are perfectly safe if they’re made of the proper material and...

Is this a thrust button and can it be removed?

Here we go again. While I personally prefer to use tapered bearings, there’s nothing wrong with the green style bearings. There are two versions, and the earlier version is actually more problematic. @DoctorDiff covers this on his website Why Green Bearings? - Quality Body Shop Drivetrain...

    18" Wheel help

If you want to use a 8” wheel up front you need more than 4.5” of backspace if you want to actually use the rim width to run more tire. Realistically you need at least 5” of backspace on an 8” rim in the front to make running the 8” worthwhile vs a 7” wide rim. That Demon is only running a...

Looking at purchasing a "portable garage" (aka, tent) for temp storage. Any recommendations?

My Duster has lived outside the entire 12 years I’ve owned it. It’s a car, not a sugar cube. I’d rather see a car parked in someone’s driveway and being driven than shrink wrapped in their garage for a bi-annual trip to the Dairy Queen. See the bump to the right of my plow truck? Yeah, that’s...

Looking at purchasing a "portable garage" (aka, tent) for temp storage. Any recommendations?

I’ve used the ones that Costco sells, they work very well for what they are. They’re quite sturdy and come with all the anchors you need to hold them down. I had mine bolted down to a concrete pad, so it wasn’t going anywhere. The roof would last about two seasons before the sun wiped it out...

    18" Wheel help

Front's will work fine, a 245/40/18 should work well and shouldn't require any body modifications. A 255/40/18 will fit the rim, but that's a 26" tall tire so it will probably be VERY close to the lower corner of the front fender on a '71. One of those situations that will come down to ride...

My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

Yeah I'd rather have the bushing, I went and looked at all the options for the LS T56 and did find that there is a bushing made by one manufacturer so it's not out of the question to use one. Like there's no reason why it can't be a bushing that I can think of but I didn't want to install a...

    Alignment Help

The Fastraxx is a bubble set up, it works just like the hub gauges but with the different attachment points. Getting it solidly attached to the wheel is definitely part of the learning curve, and some of that depends on the wheel itself and what the lip/spoke design kind of looks like. If the...

    Alignment Help

I use one of these SPC Performance 91000 SPC Performance FasTrax Camber Caster Gauges | Summit Racing I have a set of toe plates and a a used set of old Hunter turn plates that I got pretty cheaply, they're out of a professional alignment shop and weigh a ton. My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

Space for the moment, once the electrical is done and I move some projects it’s going to be more full than I’d like already. It mostly just makes noise, occasionally the gear change isn’t quite as smooth but it’s not really harder to shift. My current working theory is that I had a rear main...

My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

Right?! It's May! Really it's only a couple inches and it's going to warm right back up so it'll be gone in a day or two. Wasn't exactly motivational to get started pulling the transmission today though

Making a car difficult to steal

I haven't heard of it being recovered. Probably overseas in some billionaires garage. Tell yourself whatever you like, but anyone that's spent any amount of time as a tow truck driver can pull your car straight out without any issues, regardless of the wheels being turned. I guess you've never...

Making a car difficult to steal

A set of wheel dollies or tow truck skates and the lock boot and disconnect don’t mean a thing. Gets dragged onto a rollback or into a trailer and away it goes. A cut off or simple ignition ground switch is plenty for stopping a joy rider. Clubs and wheel boots and all that crap are...

My "new" '74 Duster- or why I need a project like a hole in the head

A little update, my constant searching for the Circuit Car catalog paid dividends and I scored a cheap copy on eBay! Was super stoked about that, it was practically a steal and that's not something that happens on eBay much anymore. It even came with a copy of the '74 Chrysler Kit Car...
