Lastly I noticed what I thought was a stress fracture (along the casting line) from one of those holes but under magnification it was just a casting line with no fracture. So I am using it even though the hole is partially blown.

If so I believe (I could be wrong) these are post processing holes that were used as a pilot hole to drill out the holes in the rockers. I noticed that mine have different sizes as shown. Mine were obviously mixed and matched up as I have both locking and interference ball adj screws.

Thanks Pierre! Yes I am doing this methodically. The shafts look great. I removed the caps and cleaned them throughly in kerosene with bore brushes. Used fine sandpaper as well. The caps didn’t fit but I found some 5/8 freeze plugs that did Dorman555-011 that right. Thanks so much for your help...

Welp mine wasn’t! Thats the fing point. I wasn’t getting crapola out of my top end when hand priming at 60psi. SOMETHING was wrong and I needed to understand what. I was in a debugging mode trying to understand how the system worked.

so I have read how to set solid lifter valve lash hot. But on an initial set up how to you set the lash cold before the first fire to get them close? Is it the same method as hot then tweak them in after the engine gets to operating temp?

Still trying to understand this design. Looks like special threads that are interferenced or thread angle differential? The threads look straight not spiraled or canted…. I believe air can get through even though they are super tight.

Not a dumb question! It’s actually the one that matters most! I just found that it’s only the passenger side that is binding. I am going to dismantle it and inspect it. It does imply the pads are the issue I believe.

Thanks I will but don’t want to waste anyone’s time until I get a chance to verify. I blew out my knee so it’s a slow slog in getting stuff done. Will follow up as soon as I can but at least this information supports what I am doing and minimizes the number of times I have to be under the car.

When reinstalling the trans linkage on my 904 is there a particular way to hook up the linkage? For example I put the trans in neutral and then put the shifter in neutral and just attached them. This seems like a basic way to do this but I am having some issues that I am working through. Thanks
