Back to the track with the 65 Signet 340

Ill kick cinnamons narrow *** all over the property is she even looks at me funny. And the old lady just called to tell me the neighbor in the yellow house up the hill from the shop lit his property on fire. She says the fire department has it under control now. That means I not only have to...

I don’t care what anyone says, the early A’s are the best looking cars going.

    adjusting valve lash 422 SB

The 4 position method gets more skewed as the cam gets longer but the 8 position method doesn’t. If you lash the valves with the intake off you can see the the lifter is exactly 180 degrees from the nose of the lobe. As for the EOIC method I do that for lash loops and stuff like that but I’ve...

New Mancini Timing Cover Fitment Issue

Will a Milodon gear drive fit under it Andy?? I can’t tell if it’s quite wide enough on the lower right side to clear the foot that comes off the mounting plate.

    Nicks Garage 383 build

Yes. But usually when they let me do what I want or at least think what they want. Bubble gummers will always be bubble gummers. Not much you can do about that. I had a Pontiac on the dyno a year or so ago. If the dude who owns it would listen his life go a lot better. I set it up with 18...

At this point your plan sounds the best. Keep at it until it’s happy. That’s what it wants.

    Nicks Garage 383 build

I get it Ramm. Customers lie. Always. Same thing happens here. Guys love to say “I only want *** horsepower” and when it’s all said and done it’s not enough. It makes it difficult to build engines. You know the end product is going to be disappointing but you build it anyway because J. C...

    How does this look?

Ok. That’s a bit boggling that it wants that much initial because you certainly are not over cammed. Have you verified TDC? I ask because I forgot if you mentioned it. Hmmmm….

Time to start the build up

Machinists are human. We make mistakes. If you want to assemble engines you better damn well know how to correctly measure things to verify it is what it should be. For example, let’s say I have a crank and I want .0023 clearance. But I check it myself and I get .0039! Do you let it go even...

Time to start the build up

Do you already have micrometers? I’ve seen his use calipers to set a bore gauge but I’ve never been in any machine shop (automotive or general machine shop) that would allow that much inaccuracy in measuring. As for painting blocks I’ve never done it. I did grind and polish my TA block to a...

    How does this look?

What cam specs do you have? It makes it easier to try and see what your curve should look like if you know your CR and cam numbers. I’ve said this before but this kind of work is quicker if you have a distributor machine. It’s even easier and quicker if you can get the engine on a dyno. That’s...

    How does this look?

Then you have more cam timing than your compression wants. In that case, you need to band aide it with vacuum advance and hook it to manifold vacuum so it will pull some timing at idle. What you can’t do is mechanically cram a bunch of initial into it. If you do that you might as well lock it...

Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

They should all be race headers. Don’t let the word race scare you. That’s the problem. You want to run junk **** and then ***** about it. So the answer is YOU NEED A RACE HEADER or stop bitching about header fit.

    adjusting valve lash 422 SB

The 8 position method is the most accurate way to set the valves. I don’t use it if I’m doing a lash loop or similar but most of the time I use it. What makes you think they were set right to start with?

    How does this look?

That is in way, Way WAY TOO SOON. That head only needs 30, maybe 32 total and it doesn’t need anywhere near that at peak torque. Probably 24 at peak torque. Maybe a skosh less. Unless you have compression less than 9:1 and a huge cam that curve is killing power. Peak torque is about 1500...

    5.9 magnum and the ax15

Street/strip car. I can tell you the car cares if it’s 9-11:1. I can tell you I will have more cylinder pressure than you and most likely 100 HP on you. That’s why I went from 4.56’s to 4.88’s and from a 26 to a 28 inch tall tire. It needed the extra low gear. Just because you don’t...

    5.9 magnum and the ax15

Starting line ratio isn’t a guess. I’m at 15:1 in first gear and that’s a little shy. At 11:1 my car wouldn’t move. That’s too tall.

Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

I can assume by you post you don’t get it. If you think a race header can’t be used on the street you don’t know what you don’t know. Never assume I don’t have at least as much experience as you. Maybe more. I’d pay for a good set of Hookers before I would run a free set of Doug’s, TTI or any...

Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

No, you didn’t have a set of 5303 Hookers. You had the 5204 header which is a street header. I never had a set of them that didn’t fit and fit well.
  30. N

Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

Because there is a HUGE difference in the fit of a set of 1200 dollar headers compared to a set of 500 dollar headers. A good race header isn’t the same as a street header. You are talking right out of your hat.
