Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

Nice! Similar story here. I was not a cop but a railroad worker in NY. Left that state for Florida and double my house size, land area, built a 12 aq. ft. garage (almost done) and enjoy everyday thank the Lord God Almighty!!! Now to get as many years of life in retirement as I did years of...

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

WOW! I’m not a fan of that stupid high speed driving on the interstates. If you know a stretch of no exits for a few miles and its traffic is ZERO VEHICLES, then I say at your own risk have at it. It’s when these cars/drivers are turning up the speeds and a possibility however remote it may...

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

True. If you get yanked over, you probably deserved it. They do want people to stop before they state to their friends, “Here! Hold my beer and watch this ****!” I will say interstate driving in this state is pretty freakin scary!

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

Come to Florida and run open pipes legally without worry where ever you drive including next to the police. Who by the way don’t give a crap if you have no cats, no mufflers because there freedom loving Americans. Best scene yet, a guy in the drive through running Zoomies headers and a 6-71 in...

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

My Magnum had a passenger side pipe that was held on by 2 bolts. The tube went to a check valve so there was no backward air flow. I think it was called a ”Diverter valve.” The hard steel line continued to a rubber line attaching to the air cleaner. So as long as the carb was running right and...

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

During testing, the air pump cooled the exhaust gas and somehow it reduces the toxic fumes. I don’t know the science behind it. A catalytic converter doesn’t need an air pump to remain clean and clear to do its job. It needs a properly tuned carb. The aftermarket (check around Summit Racing)...

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

This is 100% correct as well as a double bulls eye. The only thing I can add and I’d like to state that it is not a Litt Red Express only thing is, depending on the year and state you live in, other 360 4bbl engines came with the regular 360 2bbl cam and a designation was given to it and a...

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

Do you have a link to that page. It’s a bit blurry. Actually, I’d like to find one for a ‘79 car.

Did the 1979 Lil Red Express come with an air pump?

Being a “Truck”, they probably skated around the air pump. I’ve never seen an air pump on a LRE truck before. I wouldn’t go by my testimony.

    OSAC valve elimination

Clean burn? 0r “Leanburn” ignition/emission system? I’m haven’t heard of “Cleanburn.” Leanburn is the first (rudimentary) computer mounted on the side of the air cleaner. It controlled the spark and timing. No OSCA valve that I can remember. Some air cleaners (years unknown) did have something...

    OSAC valve elimination

The valve on the firewall designed to delay vacuum advance for 15 seconds in the name of clean air. Just run the vacuum line from the carb port to the distributor and that’s that.

    Edelbrock AirGap question

That was one of my reasons as well. Ugh! And I was young then! LOL! While there is nothing wrong with points!, it’s when they get old and coupled with today’s junk at the stores, it’s more of a PIA to have a sweet running old machine running the OEM equipment. I’m had a cam so worn out on one...

    Edelbrock AirGap question

Tony, when we met years back for some parts, you sure don’t look that old! Certainly fooled me! LMAO! Keep up the good work. We all have a car or two….. or three… LOL… that we wish we still had. I could name a few for sure. I’ve always liked the electronic conversion kits way better than...

    Carburetor question

OH! By the way, I have a fairly hopped up 340, nothing special, stock rebuilt bottom end, 241@050 Hyd cam, CNC heads, RPM intake and headers, etc…. I’m using the 800 AVS Edelbrock. The stall and gear ratio are a bit steep for an everyday ride but it works really well.

    Carburetor question

Roger that! The crystal ball comment was an inside joke between Rusty and the forum alone with the answer to what cam I should use with the answer being “750 ROLLER!” On a more tech note…. The old 440’s used in Imperial’s and the like huge boats used a small 600 AFB . It should also be noted...

    Carburetor question

@RustyRatRod is your crystal ball still broken? I loaned mine out and haven’t seen it since it was being misused in one of the Lord of the Rings movies. I’m pretty pissed about it.

    Carburetor question

800 because a 650 is retarded to use on a 416 unless the rest of the build is or danm near OEM stock as a rock. The lack of information is staggering! A .540 cam lift is meaningless.

    Charcoal canister line routing.

The PVC was always to the carb up front. The vent line wasn’t plumbed to the PVC unless the carb was changed out where the suggestion of using a “T” to be used to connect them was in the carbs instructions. I agree with capping the others IF there is a gas smell issue. Cap the canisters open...

    LD340 vs other intakes

Yep! Sure was. I also call this test a bit bogus and not really tapping into the intakes potential. It’s a fine A-B-C test with a “Look what happens in this specific combination.” And that’s it. Just that specific deal right there. This test also reminds me of the header test. It was exhaust...

    LD340 vs other intakes

Depends in the comb, each and every time. Today, I would t even think about a single plane unless the cam was at least 255@050 in a light car. Have it ported and run it to 7K. It’s a big plenum/short runner intake.

Notice the throttle arms and the vacuum ports! No EGR valve port, no extra vacuum port on the base. Just the PVC, part time and full time vacuum ports. The rear of the carbs show ether an extra full time vacuum port or a power brake booster port. These are the over the counter TQ’s you would...
