Smallest wheels you can fit on a 8.8 drum brake rear. Explorer

could do the pumpkin centering by getting a 2nd RH explorer axle and cutting down the width of the housing as outlined in the sticky post up top. that brings overall width down to like 56.75" or so...

Smallest wheels you can fit on a 8.8 drum brake rear. Explorer

IIRC mopar register is 71.6mm, ford 70.6mm (~2.82 vs 2.78") I would assume 14" wheels would fit over a 10" drum. note- instead of explorers, look at rangers. they're 58.5" wide vs. 59.625, and you can find them with 9" brakes, which should work with 13" wheels, if you can find any (if you...

question about website policy on group buys?

there's a company local to me that makes custom billet wheel adapters. I had shot them a picture of what I had designed up for the rear of my duster to convert it from 5x4 to 5x4.5. the design is hubcentric to the car and hubcentric to the wheel. the price per pair comes down significantly...

Massive caster variance Side to side

one thing I noticed with my car when I rebuilt the suspension over the winter and replaced the 48 year old strut rod bushings with energy suspension poly strut rod bushings is that it pushed my front wheels back a good 1/2" or so. before rebuild, the biggest tire I could fit was a 195/70R14...

    Upper control arm replacement

kind of. you torque down on it to preload it, then strike the side of the spindle with a ball peen handle and it usually pops. loosen the nut but keep it on, because it can pop somewhat violently, and watch your toes if the tool goes flying....

Shocks: looking for Blistein quality at KYB price.

note, I am also still running 14" rims for now, and don't autocross/canyon carve/race it, I just drive it like a normal car. if I had 17's and was more aggressive driving it (really, how aggressive can you get with a 1bbl slant 6?), I would likely have different opinions

    “Budget” Suspension Build Input

I rebuilt my duster over the winter. I got a deal on some NOS .92" bars (stockers were .85, increases wheel rate from around 110 lb/in to 150 lb in), kept everything rubber and used moog offset UCA bushings, mevotech LCA bushings and ball joints, but I did use poly strut rod bushings. I added a...

Shocks: looking for Blistein quality at KYB price.

just rebuilt my suspension. I upgraded from .85 bars to .92, and 33 year old 85 lb/in 5leaf springs to some used 340 spec 130 lb/in 6 leaf. I like the ride, the biggest improvement I made however was installing the hellwig front sway bar where there was none. many people here said it would...

Duster rear upper shock mounting hole cracked.

when we bought my car in '91 with 50k miles it had either air shocks or those coil over shocks on it (can't remember which), but both body shock mounts were ripped out of the floorpan....the mounts were only designed for transient damping loads, and not supporting vehicle weight.

how to remove the torsion bars??

for what it's worth, mine that had been in the car since new (48 years) just slid out. what I did- took everything apart including removing the tbar clips ( was rebuilding suspension), loosened the LCA pivot nut so it was still held by the threads about 1/2 way. tapped the nut until the LCA...

    Magnum head drill fixture

    Magnum head drill fixture

enginemasters did a comparison on a chevy when I was at the gym last week. peak power and torque between a pro products crosswind and eddie performer RPM IIRC was nearly identical, but there was a dip in the torque curve of the pro products manifold and the eddie made about 10-15 lb ft more at...

Massive caster variance Side to side

force would be the same, but increasing the cantilever increases the moment in the out of axis direction. 1/4" probably isn't that big of a deal, and there's enough play fore-aft in the t-bar socket for it to be OK. bigger issue is there is only so much room for it to go foreward, and it's not...

Massive caster variance Side to side

    Shock absorber opinion

shock mounts weren't designed to actually carry vehicle load full time. when we bought my duster in 1991, it had 50k miles and I can't remember now if it was those coil over shocks or air shocks on it. both shock mounts were completely ripped out of the unibody.you want to get the butt in the...

    18" Wheel help

perches need to move in 1/2" on each side (center to center is 43" for A body, 44" for B)...if you already have an 8.75 or even an 8.25" rear, the driveshaft should work. the B body rear being 3" wider will limit tire size in the back unless you go higher offset. when I measured clearances on...

The man wants MORE caster. How about this idea?

'66 Barraduda front suspension won't adjust down one on side

lower control arm pivots nuts should also be loose until the vehicle weight is on the suspension. once those are tight, with the bushing being a press fit in the A arm and to the pivot, with the rubber bonded to both, it's the rubber flexing that allows it to rotate. if you tighten that pivot...

    Lca rubber bush that fit

don't disagree, it was time to replace, especially since my original ball joints needed to be replaced with close to 1/8" of play in the driver's side.... Lca rubber bush that fit

I was actually shocked how supple my original 48 year old bushings were. there were cracks on the flanges of the UCA bushings, but both uppers and lowers pressed out in one piece and were still very flexible. they were deformed or creeped such that the inner sleeve wasn't concentric with the...
