Question about 904 tranny kickdown band adjustment

Your problem is not the band adjustment, if 2nd gear works the way it should. It can only be a throttle pressure issue.

    Sealing transmission pan

This is what I use. They are also on e-bay, and Amazon. Reusable Transmission Pan Gasket | Power Driven Diesel EDIT: There is also the same type gasket for the 904 based transmissions. The 904 gasket can be used all the way back to 1960. 1960-1962 require the newer filter and oil pan. Also on...

    Lockup to non-lockup question(s)

No. To use a LU trans and LU converter your crank needs to have the 1.8 pocket. Which any 68 or newer V-8 or slant six should have.

    Lockup to non-lockup question(s)

Just a FYI. I'm going to try and build an "electric" LU 904 for the slant six. Mopar never made that trans (except for maybe a truck application, but I have never seen one), as the electric LU trans was controlled by the vehicle computer, and the slant six was discontinued prior to that application.

    Lockup to non-lockup question(s)

At my age it is hard for me to remember who I spoke to about what. I forgot you had the later engine. I was just going by your initial post which just stated the year of the car. But maybe my post will help someone else.

    Lockup to non-lockup question(s)

You may not be able to use a LU trans in your car. The pilot register changed size between 1967 and 1968. 1967 and down had the smaller crank pocket. All lockup 904's had the converter with the large pilot, and it will not fit the crank. You cannot use the early converter in the LU trans. You...

Making The Weak 7-1/4 Rear Axle Live... Kinda

Several years ago, I contacted Dana about the 7 1/4 clutch parts. I don't know if the person I talked too had any real knowledge of these parts. However I was told they have nothing that will fit. I even inquired about clutches that would have the correct spline count, but not the correct OD...

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

I can't see the sense of doing it the hard way. The bushing reduces the size of the crank pilot hole, and allows the use of a stock converter. There is no down side. Why spend a bunch of money on a special converter, when a low dollar bushing will accomplish the same thing. Granted if you want a...

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

When talking to any converter builder, if you are keeping your old transmission make sure they are aware of that.

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

Problem with getting a converter with the large pilot, is they may not be able to give you a High stall speed with the small splines to fit your transmission (those parts are getting hard to find). So then you will need to get a later transmission, or change the front section of your trans to...

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

Without doing mods to the converter and/or the trans, this is the situation. `1960-1967 trans and converters go together. 1968 up non lockup trans/converter go together. Not sure of the 1st year of lockup, but lock up converter must be used with lock up trans. All three versions of converter and...

Then you would need to find a flywheel with the small center hole, or again, use an adapter ring on the crank to allow use of the late model flywheel.

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

My memory is not what it used to be, but I think the 1.55 is the small pilot. You will need the adapter bushing. Contact member @slant six

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

Check the size of the converter pocket in the crank. The 340 engine will have the "large" pocket. The converter "MAY" have the small pilot. You might need to get the adapter bushing.

    Torqueflite 904 rear seal

Fatsco knows what they are doing. I delt with them for many years. Seals do not need to be broken in. That said, when installing the seal they should always have the "lip" lubricated with the same fluid that will be sealing. Otherwise the seal can "burn" up from a dry start. PS: When I lived in...

    Initial Torqueflite tear down findings

Not recently, but I have had several converters repaired with a new pump drive. Used to have a problem (years ago) with the drive slot developing a crack.

    Torqueflite 904 rear seal

Possible torque converter drain back (from sitting) raised the fluid level enough to leak out passed the seal. Once the trans was out of park with the engine running, the converter refilled and the level in the pan went back to a level that did not leak. PS: just an FYI. The 1965 cable shifted...

    NSS

As far as I know, all three pin switches are the same. It is the single wire switches that are different from each other.
  24. C

    NSS

correct. but the rooster comb from a cable shifted trans cannot be swapped into a non cable shifted trans easily.
  25. C

    NSS

You cannot just interchange the NSS between transmissions. But as stated keep the 3 wire switch and just use the middle terminal.

    904 pushbutton conversion

Sorry, not correct. First year for the slip yoke on the 904 trans was 1966. The 1965 904 trans had the flanged output shaft, small input shaft, and a cable shifted valve body, that was the 1965 only. However the 65 valve body can be swapped out to the 64 down VB to make it work with a PB...

    904 pushbutton conversion

I don't know for sure, but I think the PB shifter conversion should fit both the 904 and 727 trans. In the later non PB years the valve bodies will interchange between both transmissions within a given year range. Contact these people. Imperial Services - '60-'76 A-Body Parts

That's what I have heard, also. But I have an 88 Diplomat (non cop car) it has an 8 1/4. I also have the complete drive train from a 89 Diplomat cop car That is a 8 1/4 open, and had heard the cop cars got sure grips.

I understand that some vehicles in the '80's Had 7 1/4's that were different than the earlier ones. I have never seen one in person as far as I know.
