I agree. I was almost always at a disadvantage, as I was usually the slowest car, when racing in "all run" races. Plus it gets hairy when you are doing 16-17 sec, and the other car is at least a 11 sec car. I always worried about the closing car having a problem and coming into my lane at the...

    Footbrake racing

I have gone as slow as 22.8 in the 1/4 mile and as quick/fast as 9.20 and about 145 mph. I don't think I could do it now (under the same rules/equipment as in the 70's) But at one meet I ran my Z/sa valiant (16.75) in "street" bracket, and the Dragster (9.5) in super pro (no box) and won both...

Exactly. I remember the days when you went to the track on race day and could get almost as many time shots you wanted before eliminations. Gates opened at about 8 am, hot track about 9 am, eliminations about 1 or 2 pm, finish racing about mid night. You could actually work on the tune up on...

Good for you. My 60 Chevy Biscayne Had a 170 HP 283 and a 3 speed, 35 lb flywheel 3.09 1st gear and 5.13 rear. Launched hard, fell on its face on the 2nd gear shift, and then just "cruised" in 3rd.

I do and I do it for probably less money in my complete car than most box racers have in their boxes. I will challenge anyone on this site (within a reasonable traveling distance) to run against me in a car they have no more than $3000 into. That's what I have in mine. Not everyone has a ton of...

    Footbrake racing

Yes, I understand that. It looks totally stupid to someone that is not really familiar with drag racing. And the drivers are not really driving, they are just steering, the "computer" is doing the driving. Take the computer out of the car and show me what the driver can do. PS: over the years I...

Actually I was up to Gainsville two weeks ago. I was supposed to be at the slant six race this weekend at Knoxville Dragway. But I had a problem with care for my wife. She can't be left alone for too many hours (medical issues). There are probably "driver assist" devices I have never heard of...

    Footbrake racing

Let me clarify my statement. I don't have a problem with a manually triggered trans brake. What I have a problem with is delay boxes, and all those other "crazy" things, like leaving hard, then throttling back then going full throttle again (by computer). If the driver has full manual control...

Prior to year 2000. If I remember correctly, when I took a break from racing about 1985 it was still 5 bulbs. When I started racing again in 2000 it was 3 bulbs.

    Footbrake racing

I've been drag racing since 1959. Always footbrake. My opinion is "the box is for drivers that can't adjust to changing conditions. It is a crutch". Waiting to get flamed

CHEVY GUYS GET CAUGHT CHEATING AT INDY

I was a "little guy" stock eliminator racer back in the '70's, with a Mopar. I went thru the same **** back then. I quit NHRA back in the '70's. Just started racing brackets, until 1985 when I parked my car. I got back into racing in 2001, and run mostly non NHRA tracks, on an occasional basis...

    Good day

It looks like it might be Island Dragway, in Great Meadows NJ. That used to be my home track.

How old are you and how long have you raced

Looks like there are a couple of people who raced at South Glens falls. Was not in my area, but I raced at South Glens Falls, and North Hudson one time each back in 1964.

How old are you and how long have you raced

What a bunch of "youngsters". I'm 82 and still doing this crap. In the old days started out with a flathead powered Gasser. Then went in the service and missed a couple of years. Then started running low class "stockers". Ford, Chevy, and then Mopar. Around 1976-77 started running brackets. Kind...

    More nonsense from NHRA Tech

NHRA sucks. I stopped racing in "stock" back in the '80's due to their BS.

In funny car you have to run a "as manufactured" manifold? Those are not stock eliminator cars

    452 heads on a 1965 Wedge ?

Be carefull. Not all E-85 is 85 % alcohol. E-85 means a MAXIMUM of 85 %, it can be lower. The only E-85 you can trust to be consistent 85% is what you buy in a drum. PS: They sell a inexpensive "kit" that you can use at the pump to check the actual percentage...

Water can seep/flow from a water passage between the head and block, into the lifter galley. I never had that problem, but I know others that would put a very thin wipe of silicone sealer around the water passages, like an "O" ring.

I have been using Hylomar spray. The real stuff made in England, not the stuff that was made/sold by (I think) Permatex. Hylomar aerosol spray for copper head gaskets & more!

I have a head with Manley valves and two were bad. I had to send them the valves, to get replacements. The big mistake I made was not getting a quote. $90+ ea for one intake and one exhaust. Plus shipping both ways. PS: and over 4 weeks to get them.

Those chambers do not look like any stock chambers I have ever seen. Milled or not. I have a head that has chambers at 39 CC's. and it does not have that "lump" between the valves opposite the spark plug.

Personally, I don't like changing cam timing with the crank sprocket. I do like the JP/Rollmaster timing sets, but the crank sprocket fits extremely tight to the crank. It is very hard to get on and off, unless the ID of the sprocket is "honed "out a little bit. The reason I like the cam bushing...
