How Much oil do you use per 1000 miles?
Blue smoke on startup?
Pull valve cover and look at your valve seals. V8’s have neoprene umbrellas, not sure about/6’s. They get old they harden and bust up to pieces from heat cycling.
Compression test will tell you if you have a real problem, followed...
Matter of fact, I had to take a second look, real hard to see if they were indeed models. Dang they look little you could jump in and drive out the garage.
Last time I saw one of these stickers on a car was one of Grumpy’s toy’s.
I stuck this one on here when I was 12 or so(55 years ago).
Yeah I was a big Gumpy fan back then up to the first time I drove a 340 swinger, then it was all over. Still I got his autograph in 94 at the US Nationals.
Yes, I agree, tire size may be a problem. I have 2 sets already, not sure of the condition after all these years. I’ll find out when I put them on I suppose.
Didn’t know jardine was still in business, you hardly hear that name anymore.
The true solution to this problem would be if header manufacturers would start making A body fenderwell headers again, but that would require frame rail bracing as inner fender aprons are structural components.
Would that indicate blockage if it collapsed? If so, lift up the rear axle and put it on jackstands after a long drive to get it where you think is over temp. Maybe even take the tires off. Have someone look at the hose as you maintain 60 mph. Don’t do it too long as you won’t have any air...
Did you have the block sonic checked before boring? Anything you can think of that would cause excessive friction in your engine? Does it perform the way you think it should? Hard to diagnose this without physically being there to witness it happening.
Anyway it does sound like your fan clutch...
That’s the idea of a fan clutch. To stop spinning at mid to high rpm’s or when you get into it, I believe. Air moving through your radiator at highway speeds should cool your coolant without a fan.
Are you sure you have the right radiator for that car? If you have the right radiator, has your engine been modified to produce more power that the radiator can handle? It sounds like the radiator is not getting enough air through it to me. Did you modify the grill?
Not real well versed in fan clutches, but if your heat problem is at highway speeds probably not the clutch. At those speeds and rpm it should disengage.
Its been a while since I have done this, but you need to remove your cable to grease or replace, either way. What I can’t remember is if the cable itself can be pulled through the casing once it is removed due to the squared off ends. If it does come through, don’t pull it all the way out. Pull...
Originally manufactured on a assembly line machine with multiple stations, gang mill, multi drill head and multi tap head. Block goes in one end raw casting and comes out other end fully machined.
Try greasing the cable. Friction is grabbing it and the end/ends that are squared off that drive the cable/speedometer are skipping in their prospective sockets. If that don’t work new cable and drive sockets, as in new Speedo and gear.
Talk to people and price it out.
There is a guy that is Florida that goes after seam sealer with tools he made out of forks and knives after its done in the electrolysis tank. He isn’t cheap but he is thorough.
Have it dipped in caustic solution electrolysis tank purpose built for cars. They are out there, do your research. Removes paint, body filler and all rust.
I admire your deep thought that goes into all this. I’m going to have to delve into this post later tonight at the end of my day and try to bring my level of deep thinking to your level(wish me good luck). Vastly interested subject for me. Looking forward to opening the door and “break on...
Hard to say, I know I like $500 as a price. I’d go there with tools, make sure it turns over a dozen times, pull the valve cover and take a good look with a flashlight. Maybe even pull the oil pan. Lots can happen after 6 years.
VHT high heat paint, follow the directions. You usually can find an old scrap oven on the side of the road if you look hard enough, I know I did, I got 2 of them.
