    Driveshaft won't fit

Trans came apart to inspect clutches in both drums and band material. Was reinstalled exactly how it came out. I triple checked clutches lined up, and it felt like it all sat back down properly into the sunshell at the right depth. At this point I think I am better off just pulling it and seeing...

    Driveshaft won't fit

Definitely possible. I guess I can pull the pan and try removing the park rod completely and see what happens before I yank the entire trans out

    Driveshaft won't fit

99% sure it was installed correctly as I checked for smooth operation before bolting on the pan...but I can drop the pan and check again in the car When you say bound up, what exactly do you mean? The trans worked fine when pulled, I inspected the clutches and bands, and re assembled along with...

    Driveshaft won't fit

And now things are getting worse- now, no matter what gear I put the trans into, I can not sping the output shaft at all, either direction...

    Driveshaft won't fit

Yes. Nothing changed besides converter and valvebody...same trans, same tailshaft seal, same driveshaft, yoke and u joints

    Driveshaft won't fit

I cleaned it and blew it out with compressed air, but I'll check again

    Driveshaft won't fit

Seal was not changed. On my Scamp I installed the driveshaft many times with front jacked up and rear wheels on the ground, so this stumped me and concerned me. The car is on a hill (rear of car is downhill) so maybe if I do jack it up level, maybe that helps. I was always under the impression...

    Driveshaft won't fit

I had my 727 out for the winter to do a quick inspection, and install a manual valvebody. Everything went back together as it came apart. I have also installed a 9.5" aftermarket converter. Converter was installed, fully seated, before mating transmission back to the engine and reinstalling in...

    The 8 1/4 thread

I will have a set of 2.94 gears available very soon, but not a whole rear axle unfortunately. From my research, you can get suregrips from late model jeeps (Jeep libertys) and Dakotas up to 93 or 94 I believe, but there was a year where they changed spline counts from 27 to 29, so you need to...

    The 8 1/4 thread

I have an 8.25" in a 1977 Volare wagon with a suregrip, and I am wanting to switch gears. Someone local to me is selling a complete 2008 dakota 8.25 axle with 3.55 gears. Wondering if the 3.55 ring and pinion will work on the older carrier. I believe my current gears are 2.94 ratio. Any help is...

Help with ID'ing factory converter (pics inside)

Wondering if anyone can help identify what stall this factory converter might be. I didn't have a tach in the car to know, and would like a rough idea if possible to decide if I want to reinstall it with the new combo. It was behind a 360. Thanks!

    1000hp 727 full manual build

Thank you for that break down! I have some of those parts in my current build already, so subtracting those, I need about $5,200 worth of parts for my 727 to be as bullet proof as possible...Better start saving now! And no, I am not being sarcastic, as I regularly see well built glides and...

    1000hp 727 full manual build

Thanks for clarifying about the sprag stuff. I knew about the Ultimate Sprags, but I guess I was just thinking of the plain bolt in units. Yea this is a street car first and foremost, but I would like to run it in a few of the daily driver no prep classes here, so it will have to withstand some...

    1000hp 727 full manual build

The guy local I bought my transbrake vb from had one too, but this is a street car so i want bullet steel for it when I do upgrade. Always thought a bolt in sprag was to replace a no good sprag? This trans was completely apart, all checked with a few parts added here and there. I know its not...

    1000hp 727 full manual build

No LBA here. 2nd gear burnouts always. A billet front drum will come one day. Always run a blanket on my stuff. Should work for a bit until i can get back in to upgrade it.

    1000hp 727 full manual build

Im looking to make between 800-900 with my procharged G3 hemi, and my 727 does not have close to the parts list mentioned in this thread....Fingers crossed it lives for a bit before I have to upgrade lol

Now all of a sudden we are talking about lockup? lol...whatever, I'll save my money and run faster then those who like to blow it on parts they are going to "cruise" Good luck OP!

    904 internals

The right way? Ask the many who have put the 5 thins in the front drum of a 904 or 5 thinner frictions in a 727, the transmissions are holding up fine in race applications. I ran 5 thin frictions in my front drum this past season, 11.20's off the brake at 3500lbs, 10.50 on a 150 hit...STOCK THIN...

    904 internals

An aftermarket front drum is a total waste of money in a 904...Unless your turning higher rpms then pro stock, they are not prone to the same catastrophic failures as 727's.

    904 internals

I wouldn't waste my money on red clutches and Kolene steels. 5 clutches in a 4 clutch front drum (thin clutches)...I use stock replacement raybestos clutches and re-tumbled stock steels TCS multi spring kit Tranzact trans brake valve body (if yours is really a race car, forget about that...

    A904 renew w/pics, tools

Thanks for the links Fishy! I had heard of air testing them, just wasn't sure how it was to be done. I was going to do the assembly before going into the case, but it definitely makes sense to do it once its in there as well

904 low gear- which vehicles and which internal parts?

There is a local trans parts house here that I called before that is not bad on prices either. If they don't have what I need, I will try WITT for the hard parts. I have been on the bulkpart site quite a bit now, thanks for suggesting though

904 low gear- which vehicles and which internal parts?

Ok, I hear you on the input shaft and output shaft thing. I guess it looks like the only way I will know is to buy the damn thing and find out the hard (I really hope it is a low gear and will work). As for the parts place, I will definitely use them in the future if I need hard parts- im...

904 low gear- which vehicles and which internal parts?

Is there a way to verify the trans as a low gearset externally? All I know is it came out of a 89 Ram D150 2 wheel drive truck...On another forum a torqueflite guru said that all 82' and later 904's used low gear sets....now you have me worried:? I believe on 904's the outshaft where the low...

904 low gear- which vehicles and which internal parts?

I found an A-500 locally. Apparently these trans have steel planets and the low gear set, which would be nice since i wanted to replace my aluminum front planet at the very least. What parts do I absolutely have to replace when doing the low gear set swap? Automatics are very new to me since I...
