    Hood clearance question

@GTX JOHN is probably right. I have a 69 Barracuda with a 340. I put an Air Gap and a 750 CFM Eddy carb on it. My clearance was close, so I went with a 2" or 2.5" tall (I really don't remember) K&N filter. The guy at K&N told me that it would outflow the 3" paper element. Everything worked fine...

    Unsticking an unused engine........

That is why I always add rum to my Coke. The rum offsets the bad effects of the Coke.

    Unsticking an unused engine........

Guarantee?? Now there is a man who is confident of his suggestion. Seriously though, I have never heard of the Diesel fuel trick. I hope @Miranthis tries it. My curiosity is piqued. Edit: Well I just saw that he already pulled the heads. I was hoping to see the Diesel fuel trick.

Cleaning out water jackets, with block outside car.

I can agree that Muratic would work well, but how can one carefully do it? I used Muratic acid once to clean out a gas tank before treating it with an Eastwood gas tank treating kit. It was easy to handle / manipulate, so there was no spillage, slopping or spray anyplace I didn't want it...

Cleaning out water jackets, with block outside car.

Don't forget to remove the two threaded drain plugs at the very bottom of the block; one on each side. I don't know what they are called.

Percent of lost lift due to 58 degree lifter angle?

Ah, a closet mathematician. I always liked math. I used it a lot for most of my adult life. I think it is hilarious when I see people with T-shirts that say something like "ANOTHER DAY WITHOUT USING ALGEBRA"

    Never mind

I totally agree with your feelings on this. However, please look at post #1. All @2021FLTRK says is "Never Mind". It says nothing about pistons. That is why I don't understand what is going on.

    Never mind

I don't get this entire thread. @2021FLTRK posts a thread titled "Never Mind", and all his post #1 says is "Never Mind"??? Then people start talking about 318 builds and pistons and a few people get really nasty and rude. What am I missing. If those people talked to me like that, they would get...

    Horsepower Estimate?

That is the problem with these "guess my horsepower" questions that have incomplete data. Isn't there a formula where you can estimate the HP based on a quarter mile run given the car's weight and other factors like gear ratio and .......

    Horsepower Estimate?

Sorry, but in my humble opinion, we don’t have enough data, and you said that some of it was second hand. J heads can accept 2.02 heads, but I believe they came with 1.88 intakes. It could be anywhere between 250 and 300HP. Probably pretty close, maybe a bit higher. I kind of doubt that. With...

    Oil filter relocation help

If you keep the relocated filter, I would add in an oil cooler somewhere. They don't take up much space.

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

@DartSwinger, I am just curious what the "Who cares" is about? I really don't care; I'm just curious. Was it the fact that I said I missed the red X, the fact that I said the 318 was only 22 CIs less than the 340, the fact that I said I thought a well built 6 Pack 318 would be awesome? Just curious.

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

I miss the "Disagree" X. I would use it here. The 318 is only 22 cubic inches smaller than the 340. Built properly a 318 can be an awesome engine. It just needs quality heads, crank, pistons etc. I would think a 6 pack on a well built 318 would be awesome.

Here you go, Piston area and force.

Well, @Bewey, you are not only wrong, you are extremely rude. I can think of 100 more polite ways to disagree with somebody. I don’t like it when people are rude on this form like that. There is absolutely no excuse for being rude to other people on this forum. As for you being wrong, are you...

    Which Fram Oil Filter.

I realize that Fram filters have a bad reputation. I have always used the Fram 43 on my barracuda because of a header clearance issue. The 43 is a little bit shorter than the 16. I bought several of them several years ago, and my car is due an oil change now. I am looking for a replacement for...

Intake (heat shield) and metal gaskets?

Funny thing; you'd be surprised how few young kids nowadays know what clockwise and counterclockwise is. I have been watching some YouTube videos lately where a young kid (24ish) goes around on college campuses asking students BASIC questions like how many minutes in a quarter of an hour? (most...

    Overheating on run stand

Damn, I hate it when I am wrong. I misread the initial post. I thought Steve was saying that it ran OK the first time but overheated the second time with the thermostat. I was basing all my thoughts along that line.

Wow, this is a head scratcher!

    Overheating on run stand

So no thermostat yielded no overheat and adding a 180 degree thermostat yielded overheating. That kind of points towards a faulty thermostat. I would recommend doing a few things. 1. Take out the thermostat. 2. Test the thermostat in a pan of water. It should "start" to open at 180 degrees. 3...

Just because something is on YouTube, that doesn't mean it is true. I don't use oil additives, but I certainly would not let one internet video convince me that they were bad.

New Mancini Timing Cover Fitment Issue

Assuming the 1832 is 183.2mm and the 2153 is 215.3mm, that would be 7.21" and 8.48" respectively. That is a 1.27" difference on just that one measurement. I would get a refund from Mancini and buy a good used one.

Are Speedmaster Heads Good? I've Heard a Lot of Bad Press on Edelbrock 340 Heads Lately

I have been thinking about getting some performance heads for a while. Maybe I should have bought some Edelbrock heads before the quality went downhill. I understand that since the company was sold, quality control has left the building. I have a few questions: 1. Where are Edelbrock heads made...

Paint it, Clear it or Let It Rip?

You missed a spot. Ha Ha. Seriously, It looks really good. That is an amazing idea. A few years ago, I had a big problem with sealing the housing to a new Eddy Air Gap. I tried several gaskets with several types of sealant, and I tried filing the surfaces to flatten them. I finally bought a...
