    Have you ever lost

I have found, the more usable a car is, the more the interest is kept. Our '80 D150 has 4.30 spool, it's a little loud, and hardly ever gets driven, just an occasional short trip out of time now and then.... Our '77 van, however, sees state to state use. Same with a few other classics we...

Are we getting more for our money??

Mine doesn't have the key fob either, still has a key (I'm sure there is a chip in it though). 3.6 ZF 8 speed. Gas mileage is incredible. Mines a short bed, single cab, 2wd so it's about as light as a Ram gets in these years. It's got plenty of "git-up-n-go" ... lol

Are we getting more for our money??

Also I might add.... Before I bought my '13 Ram, I was looking for the "tradesman" or a strip down model. Mine has manual windows, manual locks, no TV large screen (GPS/back up camera/etc) but we do have ice cold AC which I'm thankful for on this 95* day :)

Are we getting more for our money??

I convert most of my old cars to manual steering.... Often I do manual brakes as well .. LOL... The more room around the engine, the happier I am :) I do agree, AC is important to me, but not so much on my classics. Obstructs the view of a beautiful engine (even if it has peeled paint and grease!)

    Slant to 360

To answer your question directly, no, you do not need to change the bars. I didn't in my '74. However, your driving habits will help you decide that.

Are we getting more for our money??

Honestly, some of the cost increases are due to safety features government regulated like air bags and such.

Are we getting more for our money??

I think there were some cool stuff from '75-'85, not like the hit years of '64-74, but still some nice rides. Lil Red Express comes to mind.... the Warlock, the Macho... some cool cars also. Aspen R/T, and I was even into the turbo cars for a bit. Shoot, I love our B-vans :D lol

Are we getting more for our money??

... and I understand that my 3.6 V6 with the ZF 8 speed would absolutely crush the '78 6 cylinder in a race, or towing, or MPG. But is that the "be end all" of the discussion... ??? ... ? It certainly is a factor, and needs consideration... or is it a deeper thought that will determine the end...

Also, look at the years of compatibility. How many years of compatibility are with the new trucks? Transmissions? Computers? etc

Are we getting more for our money??

Base 1978 D100 base cost 4300.00 in 1978 (so says online). Adjusted to inflation, that would be 20,700 in 2024. No base Dodge truck for 20k in 2024.

Are we getting more for our money??

Great post. Part of being free is mobility. This country is huge. Travel is not only essential, but it's freedom. It's why they hung horse thieves. Being able to keep your "ride" (be it horse or car) healthy was a part of being free. When a person cannot "give care" for their ride much...

Are we getting more for our money??

I remember couple of neighbors having vans. ONe was a 318 TQ, had 246k on it then caught fire. The other was at 306k when I last looked. Not sure what happened to it eventually. They both worked at the same place and had riders along the way getting there.... Both maxi vans and usually...

Are we getting more for our money??

I kindly disagree with your assessment and opinion of us "old guys" :) :poke: If the "old guy" (lol) in '78 didn't like all that "electronic ignition", in less than 3 minutes on that '78 truck he can be running points and not using all the new fancy ECU. :) What can I do in 3 minutes (or 3...

Are we getting more for our money??

I still believe that any of the gas engines backed by the 727 would be the lowest maintenance, long lasting and mechanically friendly trucks one could buy. If my '13 Ram stops, I'll have less of a chance than a 10 year old in 1978 at getting it going roadside.

Looks like 2835 sold ... not worth the time and effort to even offer it. Especially at 105 hp and 168 torque... slant six numbers :D :D :D

Are we getting more for our money??

Take me back to the days of simplicity... where 1/2, 9/16, and 5/8 wrenches would fix almost anything along the road :) I think there was more value for your money then. 225 - 440. Nowadays horsepower, torque, mpg, and highway speeds are all way up, but is there more value for your money???
