Yep, normal for what you are doing. I ran across that exact issue and just egged that hole to line up. Never had any side affects from it, and couldn't imagine there would be. Really the only other choice is to leave out the bolt straight across from it for balance and I didn't want to do that.

Never done exactly what you are asking, but there isn't a reason in the world that wouldn't work as long as the pump unit is submerged.
