    Pistons to raise Compression Ratio

How many miles were on the engine? Most magnums dont need pistons unless they had tons of miles on them. Whats the build that you are planning and why do you need more comp than mid 9's? What size cam do you plan on using?

    416 stroker cam choice

Before you think about using a purple mechanical cam, you need to address the needs of your injection system. I believe the manifold you are talking about is for Magnum intake pattern. If you are planning on running factory MPFI then that cam will probably be a poor choice. If you post more...

Fastest time with a 268dur cam?!

Its not ironic, its the correct cam for that exact combo, however if you call most of the box guys hot line you will find that they recommend that cam about 80% of the time regardless of what your combo is. In my opinion, this is a vastly better grind but would require a bit more compression...

Good choice, only problem with windage tray is the $160 main studs required to install it.

LA Pan with MAG gasket...NO WAY.

I know, I showed it because that is the only place you need to do anything, the back just fits in groove and the pan bolts down....maybe Magnums in Oregon are different but he 25-30 I installed are all working fine and leak free with all 3 styles of Kevko pans as well as some stock ones.

Fastest time with a 268dur cam?!

The reason so many people run a "268" is because its universal, as in it works over a wide variety of combos from low comp smog head, stock converter to 10-1 , good heads and 2400 converter...it just doesnt do any of it very well. You will be leaving horse power on the table if you use one. If...

LA Pan with MAG gasket...NO WAY.

I would recommend NOT cutting the gasket. We use Kevko pans exclusively and they said the same thing, we called them to try and get pan made without LA notches but that would require buying 2500 pans. Just do it like the pics and you will be fine, if you cut gasket it doesnt work nearly as well...

    LED Garage / Shop Lights?

We just converted the whole shop to LED a few months ago, had 16 2 bulb 8' T8 florescent fixtures with ballast, bought the "tombstones" and converted to 4 4' LED bulbs and got rid of ballast...it is so bright we ended up only using 8 fixtures and pulling 8 down for new addition. The main...

Fastest time with a 268dur cam?!

Just mentioning a 268 cam will make me puke in less than 4 seconds flat....call a cam grinder and get a better grind or dont worry about 1/4 times. Guessing you would be lucky to break into 14's if that

LA Pan with MAG gasket...NO WAY.

Last pic I left sealer on so you can see how it comes out hole for LA gasket nipple....once installed it gets wiped clean and seals like a champ. What you are attempting is easy, try it with injection and OD trans in a 64-66 then you will understand why a carbed magnum is a cake walk:D

LA Pan with MAG gasket...NO WAY.

have used that combo dozens of times, dont put gasket on pan, put it on block....block holds gasket and pan seals great. I will say I have never used that pan because I refuse to buy anything from Scummit but if its a 360 pan then it will work fine. You do need to use a small amount of grey...

    Aluminum headed 318s?

Pretty simple build, we have built many similar engines but used magnum block for roller cam advantages. Search "explain quench" to read a good thread about what it is and why it works. Its nothing crazy or exotic, just common sense. I have always liked that build article because it used a much...

    360/380 crate motor oiling

As previously stated, do not put a high volume oil pump on your engine! You dont need it for your level of build, it will only cause problems and suck HP

Hypothetical - Cheap 360 Magnum Rebuild

I have been building magnums for 3x as long as your racer kid has played with his 440 and have only seen aa few magnum blocks with lifter bore issues and they were not cracked, they got destroyed by lifters getting stuck after bent push rod. I have also been revving magnums over 6K for 30 years...

Anyone run high-flow Cats to reduce hydrocarbon exhaust smell?

Factory magnum MPFI uses a sensor in distributor and a crank sensor to determine both crank speed, cylinder firing and when to time injector firing, the PCM figures out timing as the distributor has neither centrifical or mechanical advance....if you turn distributor it doesnt change the timing...

Hypothetical - Cheap 360 Magnum Rebuild

stock pans dont have them, performance pans have them built in or at least crank scrapers...you wont need either with 300 hp. While a windage tray may be inexpensive, the main bolt studs to install it are not, at least for a Mopar.... Your $$$ will be much better spent on optimizing your...

Looks interesting......5 or 6 speed pro fit kits for A bodies

They are available, the 5 speed installs with much less cutting. They sell trans separate so if you have a OE trans you can use it. Toolmanmike, you didnt really think you were going to get a 6 speed for $1300 did you ?:D They make great parts, American Powertrain are the ones that helped...

Hypothetical - Cheap 360 Magnum Rebuild

Big diff between CHASIS dyno and ENGINE dyno. 300-325 at the crank(ENGINE dyno) is easy with just a cam swap. 235 would be chassis dyno with standard drive train loss with a stock 5.9 turd stick or a very ill 5.9 on an engine dyno.

Anyone ever upgrade 7 1/4 rear end

I just picked up 10 of them, they are around. Also, look into 8.8 Ford as they are everywhere for $150 and come with disks. I would not spend a dollar on a 7 1/4, specially since you can get a "ggod" one for $50. Where in Cali are you?

A few questions for the pro engine builders out there...

B3RE is 100% correct, its your butt on the line when it leaves the door so if its not right then who gets blamed....the shop owner, not the customer who wants 26MPG 600HP and has to pass CA emissions but I want a really lumpy idle...probably 50% of customers have unrealistic expectations of real...

Anyone run high-flow Cats to reduce hydrocarbon exhaust smell?

If you are running open loop, the pcm ignores O2 readings and runs off programmed parameters instead. You want closed loop operation so O2 has control over fuel trim.

Hypothetical - Cheap 360 Magnum Rebuild

Dont put a high volume pump in it, use a good brand of stock pump and you will have 20 at idle and 50 above 1500. A LA 360 crank is the same as the 5.9 magnum crank... There is a better cam grind out there, more on intake and less on exhaust. If you put it back together with a good cam you will...

Harmonic Balancer for MAGNUM. JEGS ALMOST got me! WTF?

Jegs is on crack....What they say doesnt make sense...what it should say is wont work on 2002-2003 5.9 Magnums because they had one piece cast pulley/balancer combo, which would work, but only if you got a removable pulley from an earlier magnum. The deal is LA360 and 5.9 magnum use different...
