    I believe Wire to the relay and and Ign2 (assuming that is the ballast start side wire) are two separate paths from the switch. Because when I jump 12v to the Ign2 side of the ballast, the starter relay doesn’t click.

    It runs in the run position. Fires up when the key is backed to the run position from start. Hardly ever starts while cranking. Have full voltage to the coil. Half voltage to the ECU while cranking.

    Been dealing with this for a while. My car usually fires when the key is released to run. I think I’ve found the problem, and just want an affirmation. Believe my key switch is bad. When I turn the key to start, run voltage goes away. Is this normal? - I wouldn’t think so.

    25 years of crap and shellac in the small orifices. Lean, not because of vac leak, but no fuel. Pull the idle screws out and hose the screw holes with carb cleaner. If that doesn’t do it, rebuild the carb. Damn, it’s been setting 25 years! Gas prolly smells like varnish. And probably is.

    Are there any issues with using the magnum type 5/8” drive spark plugs on the older LA heads that had 13/16” drive plugs? Dia, reach, and gasket all look the same to me.

    I know of a half dozen cars around here setting in yards, with this excuse. They all Been there for years. And parked in dirt, rotting from the bottom up. AND. - eventually it will be towed for scrap. - “going to do something with it”. - or it is gold. - That’s not gold, It’s Rust.

    OP stated OBD I. I’m sure these behave differently. But - to figure this out , You would have to monitor real time w a scan tool. - Something will be out of whack. If not, something the old OBD I doesn’t monitor.

    I flushed my dirty *** cooling system and put in a 180* thermostat. Mistake. These are looking for 195 or they are in open loop mode- like the choke is on. Even had black smoke out the exhaust. - No code. - had to monitor w tool while running to figure it out.

    Stk magnum gasket will work good but are thick. Magnum gaskets are cut to hold push rods in place. You can use LA gaskets and pay attention during assembly. LAs come in all thickness and material flavors.

    Heads, cam, - no one has mentioned ignition. - if you recurve w about 15* initial, you will see significant improvement down low and will idle like a happy cat.
