    Pistons

Anyone ever use these pistons? I got a set with a pile of 440 stuff I picked up the other day. I am a stock head guy. I usually get them machined, resurfaced, hardened seats, new springs and place larger diameter valves. We measured out some head volumes on a few sets of 452s after machine work...

    stroking a 383

440 source has everything you need to build a 496 cubic in torquappotomus.....so much so that I am struggling with getting it to stick. Still need a good machine shop to balance everything unless you buy the prebalanced items. My block was a 66 I think.

Well hell. Good luck with this. I would have spent the money....lol

    400 stroker

I am not racing to set a record either. I can get a set of heads off a core motor, replace valves and springs, 3 angle valve job, open them up a touch and see some more hp. I figure the motor will make well over 500hp and a butt ton of torque. I spent two weeks blasting, painting, cleaning...

    400 stroker

Well, I don't have money dripping off my butt so putting together a $4000 set of aluminum heads will just have to wait. These are 906 or 452s. I also don't have money for custom pistons so out of the box 440 source .040 -24 dish pistons should put compression a touch below 9.7 with a good head...

    400 stroker

Went in a field trip to the machine shop today. Dropped off my block and heads and CCd the chambers on a set of stock heads that were done. 85cc measured volume

    400 stroker

Yes sir. I just can't get that out of a street friendly 440. I sold the motor that was in the Swinger and as soon as I get this other 440 sold I am going parts collecting!

    400 stroker

Fast forward....I went out on a walkabout while deployed....couldn't update thread. Motor went together. Went with Comp-Cam-Xtreme-Energy-507/510. Funny video of my buddy and his wife with some camera banter on a video he sent me while gone.

    400 stroker

That sounds awesome. The builder that sold me the internals said the same thing. I was able to pick up the entire assembly new because a customer changed their mind. Saved me around $700 bucks....I am sure I will spend that elsewhere!

Show Your Big Block A body!

You are inside of a thread where everyone on here is going to to post pictures and motor combos on their A body big block cars. My a Demon has nothing to do with your build. I would make the following recommendations.. 1. Address the cars brakes. If you did not upgrade them, you may want to...

    400 stroker

More power in this case. I built the 74 Swinger with a nice little small block. Wife loves it and drives it all the time. Not a perfect car, but shows nice and the thing turns heads everywhere. Built the 72 Swinger with the 440 and still working on tuning and driveline to get it the way I want...

    400 stroker

Picked up 496 stroker components from a local guy. Everything is off at the machine shop while interior is being completed. Car is wired. Going with Schumacher components for mounting and exhaust and 440 source on the motor. More to follow as it moves along.

    400 stroker

Ok, so update here. Since this thread took a left turn in to a machine shop discussion, let's redirect. I bought this motor as a "400." It was not. It was a 383 with a set of mismatched heads and a cast crank. I did the deal over the phone, not too happy. Up side is I didn't pay enough to be...

I read some of the articles. Maybe when I am settled where I am going I can order the book.

    400 stroker

I hear you, but I barely fit that damn 440 in the Swinger. I am still trying to find aftermarket chrome valve covers to let my heater blower motor fit back in. Aftermarket heads to let the motor breath like the stealth heads would give me the same issue but heads like the trick flow are even...

    400 stroker

I have another 2 400 motors that I can build when I get home next year. I just talked to my buddy who is going to pick this up for me about doing just that. Change out manifold, inspect, reassemble and put on the run stand. The type of stroker I would like in this car is going to take me time to...

    400 stroker

I don't disagree. I also have a 1972 date coded 440 at the machine shop. I could drop this running motor in as is, drive the car. Then work on the 440 or the other 400. I want heat and AC in this car eventually. Machine shop is so behind. I dropped that block off a month before I bought that cam...

    400 stroker

Well Andy I am not selling off my kids to build it, even though there are six to choose from. I was looking at the 440 source 470 rotating assembly and trick flow heads to start so we are already at $4500 plus machine work .....and everything else. Truck is still for sale and so is the project...

    400 stroker

Picked a bone stock motor that a guy had put in his car while original motor was being built. Foundation for the Demon driveline. Stroker street with occasional strip cruise car. Rear is 8 3/4 3:55 gears sure grip. Build under member Restos.....was running when he put it in the crate (10k) What...

    440 into a /6 duster

Yes. It was beyond simple to assemble everything outside of the car and roll under. I would recommend that to anyone. The 72 Demon project is gutted up front for body and paint, but more importantly to assemble motor and Trans and bolt to front suspension. With the HDK and TTI I only needed one...
  28. Dartn440

    440 into a /6 duster

Sure. I think with aftermarket items it gets a bit more tricky, but not impossible. I wanted a clean look. With stock heads and stock valve covers I have blower motor clearance. I used Mancini master cylinder adapter, stuck the battery in the trunk.
  29. Dartn440

    440 into a /6 duster

Yep...what he said. I have a home made heater delete plate on the firewall for now.
  30. Dartn440

    440 into a /6 duster

I am not sure it's a matter of scaring people away from a 440 swap, rather an understanding that the entire car needs redone from front to back to be safe and reliable. Good luck with your swap.
