    318 exhaust manifolds

I am about ready to take the polished TTI headers off of the Barracuda, and install a set of nice stock manifolds that I have put together. Part numbers are 2951123 and 2843953. They show to be for a 68/9 Dart, 318. I wonder why the listing shows a different part number on the Barracuda for...

    67-69 Barracuda tunk extensions?

That is what I used on my drivers side. I just had to extend the vertical portion down farther for the Barracuda.

Electric water pump drive, any gains in ET?

Going strictly from 25 year memory here, but they used to say it was something like 25-30 HP to run the WP at 7,000 rpm. I had no facts to back that up, just what I was told. Thus, I used to run an electric pump on my deal, as I used to shift the 383 at 7200.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, what is your total timing? This was always a big deal with me, had to have 44 degrees.

    race veterans plz help!!!!!!!

This is golden information right here. Like hemicop says, pettybluedart gave some great information. But I would want to know exactly what the plugs are seeing. One rule I learned about drag racing that served me the best, "lean is mean!" When you start seeing little sparkles (piston) on the...

    340 crank

As Jimbo said, 273, 318 and 340 all have the same rod and main journal size. The 360 has a larger main journal, but same rod journals. Lots of cranks over the years, and steel cranks from 318s used to be pretty easy to find. Some of the early 340 cranks were factory shot peened, or so I...

Hemmings Top 32 Cars to Restore

Plymouth Barracuda 1967-'69 Although reproduction body panels aren't as readily available as they are for the 1970-'74 E-body Barracuda, more and more parts are being reproduced each year. Factory-correct interiors are now available, along with other trim items, making restoration of these...

    Tube Chassis Hemi Dart Project

Yeah, they have a lot of electronics now, and you wouldn't have to carry around two batteries. All I had was a gold box and electric water pump. The water pump didn't run much, and I had two RV batteries in parallel. Never had a problem, but I can see now how a guy could. That is why I...

For us old farts, killer means good. :D It is kind of like "sick" to the current generation.

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

At the least, you will need to remove the drag link, and take the motor mounts loose to jack the motor up as far as you can. Pretty easy then, should come right out. I always used some 2x4 chunks of wood, to block it up. The only time I ever bought a killer (bronze) oil pump drive, was when I...

    Tube Chassis Hemi Dart Project

Thanks for the information. I hear ya, things have changed a lot when it comes to electronics. I used to run dual batteries, and they would last the whole evening without a charge. (a portable generator never did make the top of my priority list:toothy7:)

Yeah, the pan needs to come off. Big blocks have some really cool features, one being the external pump. 4 bolts, and it is in your hand!

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

That would be a big block, correct? That was almost exactly what happened to me, except I didn't lose the valve guide or any of that. I think it was a bent push rod though, and like yours, the lifter was laying in the valley. I had built a poor boy oiling system, since I couldn't afford the...

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

Yeah, they almost look like a large allen wrench on the last couple inches. I hope you are right and you probably are. I would still use the paint filter on the oil, and also cut the filter open. Back when I was racing, I would pull the pan off at least once a month, just to check side...

    Tube Chassis Hemi Dart Project

Wow, there is some serious cash there! Is that an alternator I see on the lower passenger side? Is that a current trend, or are doing that for some street time? The smog pumps came around after I quit, but now that is standard fare, just wondering if the same is true with the alternator.

Looks like the end that goes into the pump is broken off. The pictures are fuzzy, but there should be a couple inches (IIRC) of hex part that goes into the pump. Also, the little bit that it looks like you have left, looks twisted. It should be straight. Old Kimmer comes through again...

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

I used to use those every time, but the last 4 motors, have gone back to a standard pump. Especially a small block in my opinion, since the oil goes to the rear main first, unlike a big block. No matter how hard I tried with HV pumps, I was always fighting getting them sealed up good. I...

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

I use a magnet tool, that has a handle on it. You may need to help it a little by backing it out with a long handled screw driver in the distributor slot. Sometimes they seat too hard for a magnet to pull them out of the seat without a little help. Old Kimmer may be right, it would still turn...

Ok. sorry, I misunderstood the sewing machine comment. I agree, get it out of there and find out what is wrong. Parts are just too expensive to take a chance.

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

Still don't know exactly what motor you have, is it a magnum? Hydraulic or solids? 4 inches is a lot. I would do the normal trouble shooting procedure of starting at one problem, and working through it. I would be most concerned about the oil pressure first. Eliminate the gauge. Do you...

My Demon must look like a spaceship.

Your car looks great Tom, love the blue! My best story, was when I was setting at a stop sign in my restored 57 Fury in the mid 80s. A guy is making a left hand turn, coming from my right to the opposite direction I was traveling, and runs into a parked car staring at the Fury. I felt so bad...

    Bad Day, Very Bad day

Solid lifters or hydraulics? If they are hydraulics, and you had 0 oil pressure, you wouldn't have an engine sounding like a sewing machine unless you caught it at the moment you lost pressure. Is the radiator still topped off? Trying to be positive, you may have two minor problems (I hope)...

    Pics of my friends Cordoba

...any kind, I would bet you would feel the rep was well earned. I bought a new Dodge van in 77, and could talk about the problems for hours. The sting is still there after all of these years. They didn't really give a **** either, because they were selling about everything they could build.

    318/360 roller camshafts

Kim, you might be right, this calls out the roller 318 at .391 and is not specific on the roller 360. Good call. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html I could have sworn I found a place that called out the roller 360, but this sure doesn't show it.

    Window chrome trim buffing!!!!!!!

I have been doing this for years. It comes out amazing if you have the right stuff. Started out with just a cloth wheel on my grinder, and one stick of rouge a long time ago. More recently, I bought all the supplies and the $500 buffing machine from Eastwood. Pretty handy to have around, but I...

You took pictures of some incredible cars, just beautiful. Big Block all black Dart GTS? Wow! On and on. That is very interesting, loved the 58 Plymouth, but if I never see another General Lee charger, it won't bother me. Back when Christine was a new movie, I was and had done a frame...
