If the bulbs are new and are known good, sometimes the sockets need cleaned or replaced the connections get corroded etc. you could do a wiggle test turn on the left side for example and gently wiggle the bulb see if it starts flashing etc. other than that basic test get a test light and probe...

Well, check it out if there is one bulb it may be a 1157 as there are two elements a 1156 has one element so if 1156 were the correct bulb, Id think you'd have 1 bulb for tail lights and 1 bulb for brake/turn. if it is one bulb try 1157 as the bulb has the tail light element and a brake/turn...

This is true. I worked with a Ford master tech who traveled to california 20 years ago. He was going to move out there but did the research and figured out Ford master money didnt go as far in California...

Do you have brake lights with tail lights on? is it 1156 bulbs where there should be 1157's? stranger things have happened...

A fun thing to do if you can find good info is, look up MPG of say a 1970 318 Swinger then compare it to a Swinger 340. Could even look up a 69 318 Satellite and compare it to a 383 Roadrunner etc. Rumour is The Dart Swinger 340 in 1970 got 13 or 14 MPG as a new car ...unacceptable wouldn't...

Not hated just not worth dumping $$$ into to make power. A 318, to me is something I'd run while I was rebuilding my 340 and that is because it is a direct bolt in, same flywheel can be used etc. no balance issues...
