Rough idle turned to crank then ka-thunk

Slanty's have timing chains. They actually use the same chain and crank sprocket as the big blocks (cam sprocket is different). The factory cam sprocket had nylon coated teeth. Most aftermarket replacement sprockets were not nylon. The heavy duty slants in some model trucks had double roller...

Rough idle turned to crank then ka-thunk

Time to do some diagnostics. 1st, if the timing marks are on TDC, and the rotor points where it shows in the picture, and the wires are in the cap as the factory installed them (#1 being near the locating tab on the dist) the timing is way off. I would pull the plugs, and move the damper back...

    NGK spark plugs breaking.

Everyone has manufacturing issues at one time or another. It is how the problems are handled. Several years ago I had problems with champions not lasting in my race car. Within a couple of weeks I would get a misfire, which I couldn't diagnose. I wound up doing back to back testing at the track...

    NGK spark plugs breaking.

I haven't used a Champion spark plug in over 30 years. Junk then, junk now. Agree on autolite or NGK

    Turbo oil drain location

Pan is fine. I just have mine back further in the sump area. and above the oil level.

    Turbo oil drain location

You don't need to tap the block. The pan is fine as long as it is above the oil level. But it should have some room in the pan, below the fitting not just barely above the bottom of the pan. The location you show is just off the bottom.

    Turbo oil drain location

It would be better if it were located above the oil level in the deep sump area. Not in line with a main bearing.

Who? me or the car? :)

    /6 cRaZyNESS

Not really. A 500 2bbl will flow 500 cfm at a pressure drop of 3 inches across the carb. A 500 4bbl will flow 500 fpm at 1.5 inches pressure drop. Since most every one is used to the rating on 4 bbl carbs (at 1.5 pressure drop), if you use the same pressure drop (1.5) on the 2bbl, that carb only...

OK I thought you knew better. PS: I run a 500 cfm holley 2 bbl on my engine, and it works well, but it is used just to get the car from the pits to the starting line. Fogger system does the real work. :)

    /6 cRaZyNESS

@Newbomb Turk What size 2 bbl would you recommend? A 500 two bbl would have bigger barrels than the primaries of the 4 bbl, and not be as responsive as a 4 bbl. But the 4 bbl will have less restriction at high rpm/load. PS: A 500 2 bbl has the same flow rating as 375cfm 4 bbl when rated at...

    1970 Slant 6 in a 1983 Dodge B150

Doesn't make any difference in fitting, but the 83 engine has hydraulic valve train, where the 70 engine is solid mechanical valve train. Also the cyl head takes different spark plugs and a different valve cover. The intake manifold might need to be changed as (and I am not sure) the 83 engine...

    Mystery Rattle Noise

Make sure the outer ring of the damper is not loose from the inner hub. I had one come completely off and run across my toes. It sounded similar to that but was a constant sound. Like holding a piece of metal against a pulley. PS: Most slants do have a slinger, but not all.

    Slant 6 stroker?

I am aware of that. He got one from "group" buy. If I am not incorrect, the original deal was $30,000 for 1 or 10, (engineering, programing, etc) so if the total cost is the same, go for the max. Then sell the excess to recover your cost. Again, my info is not 1st hand, and could be incorrect...

    Slant 6 stroker?

If I remember correctly, Someone (Crower, I think) made a run of special order "billet" slant six cranks, some years ago. My info is second or third hand, but minimum quantity of 10 cranks at $3,000 ea. If anyone has confirmed info, please correct me.

How strong is a T-5 transmission?

Quick time actually "goofed" when they made the slant six bellhousing. They should have made it to allow use of the small block size flywheel and multiple transmission bolt patterns. That would have allowed use of better clutches, and transmissions. Which would equate to a larger market. I had...

1967 BH Slant6 w/ rebuilt 904 and Gear Vendor OD

Yeah. I don't know where you would find bearings for it. I have an assortment of slant six bearings. .001, .002, .010, .012, .020, .030, .040, have never seen .050 but that doesn't mean they are not available on special order.

    Slant 6 stroker?

I find it hard to believe that you can increase the cubes of a slant six by almost 100 cubes. That is 1/3 bigger. 3.6 bore (.200 oversize) x 5.0 stroke (.875 oversize) will only give you 305 cubes.

Slant 6 timing help- Torqstorm and Sniper EFI

It has nothing to do with whether it passes smog test or not. It has everything to do with fresh air ventilation of the crankcase. Even before the days of the PCV systems, they used a "road draft" tube to create a partial vacuum, to have fresh air circulation in the crank case.

Slant 6 timing help- Torqstorm and Sniper EFI

I understand about the blowby under boost. That is why you also have a "breather" (going to a oil separator is good) then to the air cleaner. Another way of venting the crankcase is using the one way check valves, connected to the exhaust with hoses. Free Shipping on Orders Over $109 at Summit...

Slant 6 timing help- Torqstorm and Sniper EFI

I don't totally agree. On a race car that would be OK, but not really on a street car. I don't have experience with a "supercharger", but I do have with turbos on the street. With any street car you need some way of ventilating the crankcase. Is the engine under boost any time it is running? If...

Make sure there is a baffle inside the valve cover, below the PCV valve, to keep direct oil splash off that valve/gromet.

To pick up a chicken, follow these steps: Approach Calmly: Chickens can be skittish, so approach them slowly and calmly. Avoid sudden movements or loud noises. Secure the Wings: Gently place one hand over the chicken’s back, securing its wings against its body. This prevents flapping and helps...

Is there a junkyard gem slant six combo?

Cast crank slant six uses a different block, rods and crank than the forged crank slants. The rod and main journal are narrower. If using the 2.2 pistons make sure they are compatible with whatever rod you use. Not only on the pin location/rod length, but on whether the pistons are for floating...

Is there a junkyard gem slant six combo?

All factory slant six pistons will be the same CR. There are some different aftermarket piston configurations within the "stock" description. Some have a slightly lower compression distance. There are also aftermarket "export" low compression pistons. Be careful you don't get these. For what you...

    Slant 6 timing cover

Not sure of the year of the change, but the early ones the seal is R&R from the back. Cover must be removed to change the seal. The later covers don't have to be removed to R&R the seal, it is done from the front.
