Also, to the op. Your car has 1971 side marker lights, a 1971 grill and the more common hood scoop for 1971. Are you sure it is a 1972?

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

And at those speeds it shows I don't need as much hp as that.

They are in the rule book that's printed each year. Should be on www.SCTA-BNI.ORG also. Or i could take a picture of something in in the book if you want

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

Ok well ****. Alex's 235 record bumped the 224 in C/CBGALT. SO, now with only at 8mph difference, there is no need to go thru the trouble. 2024 records are not yet in the book. Duh

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

Alex Taylor ran that same car this year with a different top end and ran 234 i believe at Bonneville tho. For classic, she needed to run a carb not the EFI David used. With the big block he ran out to 276 at bonneville i believe

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

But that was El Mirage which is much more a drag race as only 1.3 miles.

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

Yes these are the classes. I would be in B as is. Would rather run C. And no. You picked Bown Vintage Gas Comp Coupe. I plan to run B/BGALT or B engine size, blown gas altered. Would like to go down to C/BGALT

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

So, i feel it need to calculate frontal area, CoD, etc with info above to calculate the hp i need to overcome it. I have 2 examples for WOS. Similar CoD 600hp got 193. Little better CoD and 950hp got 240

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

of, sorry. It is all over the map. Depends on your set up. I had pictured a 6500rpm engine with boost. Maybe it would last a while, vs 8000rpm. Hp and gearing. So, if using a 28" tire, 2.5:1 ratio with a max at mile 4 and sustained for 1 mile

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

I have no idea. That one was set in 1996. No idea the car it was set with either.

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

Thanks, just remember this is for Bonneville. 5 miles of getting to speed, little traction, heavy car, skinny tires, etc. Speed markers are at 2.25, 3, 4, and 5 mile marks. Displacement, fuel type and car modifications dictate classes. I am ok with boost on my 383, but record looks better...

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

My motor is a 68 which should have the 1.920 CH positive deck pistons I believe.

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

I would assume custom also at this point.

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

Another option. Take crank down 3.21 and use chevy rods which are 6.535. 364 inches from a 383 and off the shelf rods. Just need factory piston with 990 pin

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

For this discussion, I was looking for everyone's input on what to build to get below 372ci. It isn't a deal breaker if it just doesn't make sense, but lessening a record by 20mph is huge. Is my math right? If so, it seems doable for a displacement regulated class.
  26. 71GSSDemon

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

So, a 383 has bore of 4.25 and stroke of 3.375 and 6.358 rod. Reduce stroke by 0.275 So destroke to 3.1 and use BBC rods measuring 6.635. (Eagle H beam shelf stock) This is a 0.002" difference from stock current piston pin height, yes? So a 383 piston with a 0.990 pin should work for 351ci...

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

In the mean time, I spoke with a local race engine machine shop that is highly recommended. They can offset grind the crank if that becomes the plan. $350-400. Now talk to be about rehardening the crank or nitriding. When does this come into effect, or is it any grinding beyond clean up??
