The little 318 & Racer Brown's quality products

If your short of 400 hp doubt it will be by much, if you look a the basic 318 400 hp recipe it's 10:1, airgap, magnum heads or something on par and a 230° ish cam, your short on cr but are porting the heads.

Upgrades to my stock 273 67 Dart GT

They don't perform they function and are only used because of rules, those engines would pick up a lot of hp if swapped to a 4 bbl. Could he stay stock 2bbl sure but if looking for more power it one of the most basic upgrades there is.

Upgrades to my stock 273 67 Dart GT

Makes more sense, but doesn't the OP' 67 273 already have closed chamber heads, and 273 are pretty decent flowing heads especially on 273 cid.

Upgrades to my stock 273 67 Dart GT

Can't believe so many are against going 4bbl, who the hell wants a performance engine with a two bbl, it's basically free on tap power, it's two bbl 99% of the time and 4bbl when needed no real down side if chosen and setup right. Like people said performer or similar intake, even stock...

Upgrades to my stock 273 67 Dart GT

Why 308's ? Why ported ? Most would think that 360 heads are over kill nevermind ported on a stock cam, cr, 273.

The little 318 & Racer Brown's quality products

Never heard anyone ever say aftermarket pistons with same rings are worth X hp over stock other than if it increases cr. You would think aftermarket would all come with the opposite offset if there was more power.

Upgrades to my stock 273 67 Dart GT

Rear Gears, stall and shift kit, plus a good tune recurving the distributor are possible mods along with your 4bbl and headers upgrade.

It was and found no proof on the dyno that it works, at least for that test. I remember magazine in the 80/90's recommended it also.

The little 318 & Racer Brown's quality products

I still doubt it but like you said it don't hurt and one dyno test against ain't proof. It's all good :)

I could see why you would try it.

Do what you want, no one stopping you but there's no proof that it works either, that I ever heard of.

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

In theory but in practice I don't believe there's a power difference between the two but yes seems you can squeeze a bit more cr from aluminum heads and run on pump gas probably less chance of hot spots. I don't know about 25 cfm more, Charles Servedio flowed both and are fairly close to each...

I'd check em still no matter what company, you can do it yourself. Mainly checking valve guide clearances and if the valves seal.

The little 318 & Racer Brown's quality products

Don't worry about flipping the pistons, stock pistons had an offset and people use to install them other way around thinking it might pick up power, Engine Masters Show debunked it. Doesn't take much to make the stock shortblock into a strong performer, 4bbl cam (regrind) headers and. Heads...

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

Looks like to be in C you'd be going small block or destroked big block or 361, 340/360 probably be good choices, If going B I'd drop a 440 crank in a 383 making 432-438 could even go 0.070" to 440 bore.

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

So these are the class engine sizes you can run ? What class the car running under ? Is it BVGCC ? The first letters of a car’s classification usually reflect the engine’s displacement but sometimes are even more specific. The most common engines found at Bonneville are pushrod V-8s for the...

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

I feel you got to know what other guys are doing in that class to try to beat a 28 year old record. Even if the goal is more about experience then ultimately beating the record it still helps to know what you are competing against to help make decisions. Especially how much hp is required.

What would you build if limited to 372ci - with boost as an option

I pretty sure one of the engine shops on here said he stroked a B crank to 3.54 so + 0.17, I imagine you probably could go - 0.17 3.21.
