Machine Shop Did not Shim Valve Springs

I agree, that is extremely poor work, I wouldn't have paid one dollar to a guy that sends out jacked up crap like that. That blue tip? That's burned up from just grinding excessively hard. Sorry work, 100%

    Fresh carnage!

That's some seriously trash work by your dads "engine builder" buddy.

    Another 408 Validation

And that cam is a turd in a stock stroke 360, I would never use it in a stroker build.

    Another 408 Validation

The factory 360 cast crank in my opinion, is stronger than the eagle cast 4" crank.

    New setup- 340 based 416, 360 based 387, or 360 based 408?

Roller 360 block, 4" stroke will be all shelf parts. That's the route I'd go. Decent cam and basic home port job on the W2s and your goal is easily attainable

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Just remember, those who dont "DO" .......they "teach" Go to ANY motorsports event ANYWHERE and you will not find a engine built by DV.....

    Milling an intake manifold.

If he has a adjustable fixture for cutting heads, that's what I use to cut intakes. You bolt through the intake flange to the fixture, then indicate in the gasket surface in both axis.

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

Not the cam I'd use in a heavy B body with a 3:23 gear, but if I WAS gonna use it, I'd do like RustyRatRod suggested

    Custom 360 Cranks?

Look around and find you a short deck R3 with ford mains. That would get you what you want! Probably more of those ford main cranks laying around than the mopar size stuff. I'd check with Ernie Elliott, he had a bunch of that stuff at one time

    Custom 360 Cranks?

Yeah I get all that, just wondering what his build is to warrant such a nice crank

    Custom 360 Cranks?

I'm wondering what your trying to accomplish? It's hard to imagine needing a $3k-4k crankshaft for a 360.

    factory magnum head replacement options

Yeah, and maybe they DO offer them in the LA pattern now, I have no idea. All I have seen up till now is the magnum pattern.

    factory magnum head replacement options

I have never seen the china versions with the LA bolt pattern.

Killed another cam, need to go roller, need recommendations

There is a lot more advantage to bushing the lifter bores other than not uncovering the oil band. Most of these blocks are 50+ years old, and literally nobody ever measures the actual bore diameter, not to mention lifter body diameter variations among brands. And the lifter bores are the...

    factory magnum head replacement options

This is a china magnum head, same castings regardless of who you buy them from. This particular head was just a spare "R&D" head, and the 2.02 port was a really quick seat cut, multiple angles, bowl opened up, and 15 minutes of port work. It's been a few years, but I recall it being in the 270s...

    factory magnum head replacement options

You can buy them from almost any machine shop. (Including mine) Bare castings, or complete

    factory magnum head replacement options

The cracks DO start between the seats, the problem is eventually, the crack migrates through the seat area, causing burned valves and a leaking seat

    factory magnum head replacement options

I've gotten 270s with a 2.02 and some very basic porting.

    factory magnum head replacement options

The "new" EQ heads (china) are about your only choice. With a nice valve job and a little bowl work, they aren't bad. I'd recommend getting bronze guide liners installed from the get go also.

    My 422 smallblock build

My experience with W2 rockers, is that they DONT oil the pushrods correctly IF they are that far away from the adjuster. Went through this exact scenario 4 or 5 years ago on a W2 340 I machined for a buddy. I showed him how to measure pushrod length after the engine was assembled, but he mis...

Wrong length pushrods, it should have never been assembled like that. What does rocker geometry look like?

ARP mainstud kit for LA !!!!

Here are the part numbers and the instructions. The kit DOES include 2 extra studs, and washers are optional on the rear bolts.

Balance plates. Who's right, Who's wrong

Not to mention, you are missing 2 of the bolts due to the holes not lining up, that will effect the ballance also, as the holes are not symmetrical. And the other thing is, the factory ballance job can be off quite a bit from what we can achieve these days.

    Hughes big mouth heads

There is more to a cylinder head being able to make power than the raw total flow rate. Those big mouth heads are a sales gimmick, in my opinion.

ARP mainstud kit for LA !!!!

On this particular block, I measured the the bore diameter across the bore between the head bolts as it was with no torque plate, and after torquing the plate down with a cometic gasket, remeasured and it distorted the bore exactly .0008, so 2 tenths less than a full one thousandth out of...

ARP mainstud kit for LA !!!!

This is the highly desirable early 360 block, (71 casting date) after his first block was found to be cracked in I believe 2 cylinders. This block had previously been rebuilt and ran, and I thought it would be interesting to see what happens with a torque plate for bore distortion, as apposed to...
