Valve seals tore on break in

Just talked to the machine shop. They’ll disassemble, cut the valve guides down, install new seals, reassemble. Now I just have to find some different seals to use. Any recommendation recommendations? I would want to go more narrow than the current ones for more clearance.

Valve seals tore on break in

These are what I ordered. They fit great but a hair too tall so it seems. Or not set correctly.

Valve seals tore on break in

What did he do to correct it? Machine the guide bosses down and use a shorter seal?

Valve seals tore on break in

Well I pre lives the valve shafts with WD 40 but not assembly lube. Just double checked and they are 3/8 seals. And we’re not difficult to install over the valves.

Valve seals tore on break in

I didn’t use the little valve stem tool. I didn’t have one. Dammit man! The rubber didn’t feel dry or cracked. But who knows.

Valve seals tore on break in

Clearance from the seal to the inner spring is very tight. It seems the top just tore. I didn’t like those damn springs/bands from the get go I knew I should have left them off.

Valve seals tore on break in

Hey all, I just broke in my 440 which went great except for it tore the tops off 3 valve seals….so far. I had some small pieces laying in the heads. I’m not worried about the blue rubber, I am worried about these tension springs/bands that are now riding on my valves and their potential to break...

Header turned gold on first startup

Everything I read said get the engine up to temp then shut her down which I did. I was pretty much at idle then blipping the throttle a bit here and there. I did put a few more heat cycles on them and there’s a slight gold tint to the passenger header. Not the end of the world I guess. Thanks...

Header turned gold on first startup

Hey all, just cranked the 440 for the first time and everything went GREAT!! Except for the passenger header turning slightly gold. Schumacher ceramic coated headers.Roller cam so had it idling and slight revs here and there for 17 minutes. At 11 degrees initial and 36 total. Never got above...

    2 wire distributor connectors different

Good call I will do this. I have the connector from my old distributor. Are these 2 wires just + (ignition on) and -?

    2 wire distributor connectors different

Just installed a cheap 440 source distributor and the connector is different than my 69 Dart. Car has the black connector with grey/black and black/white wires and the distributor has the white connector with black/red and black/purple wires. How do I hook this sucker up? I’m probably just...

CVF PS Pump Pulley incorrect? No Keyway?

The pump bolted right up no issues. Think I was just sent the wrong pulley.

CVF PS Pump Pulley incorrect? No Keyway?

Exactly. I told them I already had this exact pump and sent pics. I’m assuming it’s just the incorrect pulley but wanted to double check

CVF PS Pump Pulley incorrect? No Keyway?

Another for you guys this morning. I have an email into CVF but being the weekend and I’m impatient I figured I’d ask…. Is this (pulley in right of pic) the incorrect power steering pulley? I have an existing CVF Saginaw PS pump with 5/8” key way shaft. I removed the pulley that was on it from...

    440 sitting crooked?

Got the 440 mounted up and it’s a little crooked. Both engine mounts are about in the only spot they can go with still having access to both the underside nuts. Schumacher headers are touching the power steering gear box. Not really anywhere for the motor to straighten out. Just wondering if...

What kind of temp sensor is this?

I went to pull the wire out of my temp sensor and it was not a wire! It is actually a tube and a bunch of liquid started spraying out. What type of sensor is this? And can I refill it or do I need to buy a new gauge setup? Was working fine I just took it off to paint the bay.

    CVF Serpentine on a 440?

I have a CVF serpentine setup from my 360LA. Just want to check if anyone has had fitment issues with a 440 before ordering the brackets? 69 Dart mechanical water pump. I have a fairly shallow electric fan setup.

    Roller cam valve seals? Viton?

Hell yeah! Those are perfect! My springs are .800 ID and those are .742 OD. Thank you!

    Roller cam valve seals? Viton?

Are there any valve seals I can use with a dual roller spring that don’t require having the guides machined? The positive seals that came with my springs require machining. All of the Viton style seals I see are .530 and my valve guides measure .630. Pics are the closest I’ve found.
