I changed the metering rod to the 1456 (073 x 047), because it was running a bit rich (you could smell the fuel at the exhaust). By now I have the FBO advance limiter plate, but right now with (I think) 12 degrees initial it doesn't ping and runs great! I don't really want to mess with it...

I just ordered the ebay bolt. Since the torsion bar will have to come out I hope I can get a torque wrench on there from below on ramps?! We'll see...

[SOLD] '67-up 90 degree oil filter adapter with good bolt

'67-up 90 degree oil filter adapter part number #2780998. I bought it here from a member a while ago, but realized it doesn't fit the early A-bodies. For an early A-body you will need part number #2463661, which a true 90 degree adapter, the '67-up adapter has a slightly different angle. Bolt is...

It's a bit of a pain in the *** to get those down pipes out. You the torsion bar has to come out and even then it's not fun. I was hesitant about the ebay bolt because I'm not sure it's gonna clear, but dinging the pipe is maybe not a bad idea. If that bolt actually improves oil flow - even...

Yup, I used the copper washer, but the problem is that with the TTi exhaust installed you can't really get a wrench on the shortened 1-3/16" head of the bolt. So at some point I have to take the passenger side pipe out, but then I will replace the bolt with either one that has the smaller 3/4"...

The car did well! After taking it to a car wash (so dusty) and it ran well, I went home and change the rods in the carb to make it a bit richer. I put in the #1455 (.073" x .042") rod. It was stock before and spark plugs etc indicated too lean. Adjusted the idle mixture and took it for another...

Well, that was frustrating haha... So the exhaust stud on the "new" heads had already been repaired previously, but I assume it just rusted out again from the coolant side. That was not possible to tell before I actually started torquing down the manifold and the insert came out. I tried heli...

I wasn't super fond of the look of the CVF brackets, so I cut and ground them until all the corners were round. Just looks a bit more period correct. They're not even that visible once everything is installed, but I really like how they turned out. I painted the compressor too and...

A little bit of progress. I re-installed the intake, throttle linkage, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds (almost), etc. I also mocked up the a/c compressor. It finally looks like it's gonna work. I needed CVF racing's alternator bracket to make it work. Unfortunately one of the spacers was missing...

Finally had some time this weekend to work on the Barracuda. Cleaned up the pistons and the block. Heads on and torqued. When I was cleaning up the threads I noticed one of the bolt holes for the rocker arm was potentially problematic. I should have addressed that before bolting on the...

I just like to have an idea of what I'm dealing with and I'm always curious to learn something new. It's a '69 block, so the stock pistons should have been not that far in the hole. The bores are 0.30 over, otherwise all stock and neither heads nor block have been decked. The 675 heads are...

Thank you for the advice! I started cleaning the pistons and deck surface. The part number on the pistons is 2260P - any idea what compression ratio that would give me with the 675 heads?

So the heads are off. Most of the exhaust valves are white-ish - no just the bottoms, but also when you look through the exhaust ports. I'm assuming that's a cooling passage, but that string of silicone should definitely not be there. Also not sure if that's corrosion or if it'll...

I'm not going to make it to Carlisle, but I'd take the rear defroster, if you'd be willing to ship to Los Angeles, CA 90041. Assuming it's not broken.

63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

Sweet! Looks like an '81-up hydraulic lifter slant 6?! I used to have one of those and here are a few tips: No one makes these valve covers (different shape/ bolt pattern), so be sure to not overtorque them. When getting valve cover gaskets and spark plugs (no spark plug tubes!) tell the store...

I thought about reusing the studs, because I had just gotten new ones all around, but they're not that expensive and I got them at the nearby family owned hardware store. Testing the valves for leakage is a good idea, but also testing the exhaust studs for coolant leakage before installing the...

So the timing chain is in. I ruined the timing cover gasket because coolant kept pouring out of the one of the driver side bolt holes in the block. It appeared to have stopped. I tired to jack the front up, but that didn't help. I tried to get the block drain plug out, but I couldn't. It's hard...

Over the weekend I drained and removed the radiator and hoses, removed the fan, water pump, fuel pump, pulleys, harmonic balancer, timing cover and the chain itself. The old chain had not as much play as I thought or as the distributor rotor indicated. I wanted to make sure those plugs...

Your link took me right to the hardware kit, I bought it and apparently it was the last one they had! Cheaper than anywhere else including tax and shipping. Also ordered the Edelbrock chain and the gaskets, so I hope I'll get to it next weekend.

I certainly don't want to have do again, so I should probably just get the Edelbrock chain. Thanks for the tip for the Enginetech hardware kit. Obviously it's not great that the timing chain is bad, but it sounds like it might have been the culprit for the engine idling kinda rough and pinging...

So it looks like my timing chain is bad. Below is the only photo I took when I had the engine "apart". Back I didn't notice significant slack, so I just left it like it was. Anyways, there was some fluctuation on the timing light and when adjusting the idle mixture with a vacuum gauge. So today...

I was thinking about using something like that. The only issue is that there's a drop in the floor right where your hip is. I might make a plywood base so it's all level. (very old photo)

It was super fun, but sleeping on the air mattress wasn't optimal. It's too high, so there's little room for your feet/ ankles and getting in and out is not that easy. I either want to find a thinner air mattress or make a mattress out of dense foam. Too bad you can't buy these anymore...

Barracuda beach camping in the books! Pretty much no issues. I've been watching the gas mileage over these last few trips. I got up to 15.2 mpg (highway), but at some point I retarded the timing a bit because of pinging under load and the gas mileage went down again. I'm gonna have to check...
