    Evaporator Temp Control Switch

My 72 has power to one terminal of the switch when the controls are on AC, max AC, and defrost. When the temperature control is set to cold, the switch will close and power will go to the compressor until the evaporator gets close to freezing, or the temperature control is set warmer.

    Evaporator Source

When I was thinking about replacing mine, I found Cooler Classics was the best choice. It sounds like they reproduce them by using actual factory examples. EBay sellers have them and they all seemed to be Cooler Classics. I ended up flushing and using my original. The way they are constructed...

Ac evaporator ends 1973 dart swinger

Take a look at 'aircomponents.com', they have weld on fittings.

It's no wonder the Slant 6 is so great!

You can also change the starter without crawling under the car. I've had 4 other slant 6 daily drivers in my life. The vehicles all turned to crap, (Minnesota winters), but the slants all still ran good. Sometimes it's fun to make the best of what you have. Would I rather have a 340 car? Sure...

    Radiator advice...

If you could find an old school radiator shop, I'd have it fixed. I had mine re-cored, and I think the quality is better than most after market ones. But that was more than 10 years ago. Unfortunately, with the age of plastic tank radiators, fixing is becoming a thing of the past.

67 Barracuda Factory Air - Worth Fixing Up?

My '72 Demon had factory AC. I rebuilt the system myself. There were no kits available for the slant 6, so I sourced all the parts myself. New Sanden compressor, parallel flow condenser, dryer, hoses and fittings. Inside the car is all factory. I rebuilt the heater and AC boxes with a kit from...

New Mad Max Furiosa features Valiant

Aussies are big on slant sixes aren't they? Seems like a lot of specialty parts come from there.

    How much 134a?

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll leave mine where it's at and check it again when it's in the 90s. The factory AC on my '72 is basically a knee knocker. It probably would have been easier to convert if it didn't have factory AC. I could have purchased a kit. I had to piece it together on my...

    How much 134a?

Thanks everyone. Finally got an 80 degree day. Added about 9 more ounces of 134a for a total of about 28 ounces. Low side is 22 and high side is 180. Vent temp is about 43. The static pressure at ambient is about right. I'm pretty sure that the evaporator temperature control switch is cycling...

    How much 134a?

Thanks all. Finally got warm enough to work with AC. These are the numbers at 75 deg ambient, 50% humidity, doors open, fan blowing on condenser, 1600 rpm. 15 psi low, 165 high, 45 deg at vent. Am I under charged? I only put in about 19 oz 134a. The low side seems low, but the vent temp seems...

    How much 134a?

Wouldn't the parallel flow condenser have a significantly different volume than the original? 80% of the factory R12 would be about 37oz. That seems like a lot. I didn't know a Sanden compressor would have an EPR valve. Thanks.

    How much 134a?

Does anyone know about how much 134a my '72 Demon AC should take? It had factory AC but I installed a Sanden compressor, parallel flow condenser, new hoses, dryer, and expansion valve. The evaporator is original. Also, should I check pressures with windows up, windows down, max AC, regular AC...

Ac help and What is this part?

You should be able to run new vacuum lines through any grommet. For the heater valve, I have 1/2" inlet hose. If you have 5/8", you can find many options. In the attached picture, my factory valve looks like the upper drawing and the new one looks like the lower one. Just be aware that this is...

Ac help and What is this part?

After an exhaustive search, I found a heater control valve that has the 1/2" heater hose connections on my '72. It doesn't look like the original, but was the direct replacement back in the day. It's a Stant H136, or Everco H1947.

Ac help and What is this part?

I have a 1972 Demon with factory AC with the same grommet. One vacuum line goes to the vacuum canister to supply vacuum to the interior controls, and the other goes to the heater control water valve. I also wanted to replace my heater core. I bought a new one that was close, but just didn't fit...

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. Here's a picture of my Demon. It's an amateur job, (me), but it turned out pretty good. The stripes, spoiler, and paint color are not stock for this car, but I like it.

Hi. My name is Al. I have a 1972 Dodge Demon, 225 slant six. Just finished converting the factory AC to 134a and a Sanden compressor. I replaced everything but the evaporator and rebuilt the HVAC boxes. It's finally getting nice enough here to charge it up and try it out. I've been reading a lot...
