I don’t really know what they are, they are not the cork or rubber wire gaskets. They look like regular gasket material, the ones with tabs on them that hold onto the valve cover.

If it’s leaving like a bucking bronco that may be the reason the shaft broke.

Correct, BUT, make DANG SURE you get the correct gasket. A Quardajet gasket is NOT the same. They will cause a vacuum leak around the back of the secondaries.
