    Steering coupler roll pin issues

Are the master splines present, demanding the coupler go in only one position ? If not, if it was rotated just 1 spline off, pin wouldn't go.

Steering Column Woes and Questions - Connector, Lower Bearing, and Coupler

Sorry for the long post - 3 concerns/questions and a couple of pics to support them. I ordered a new turn signal switch (Thanks Slantsixdan!) and pulled the column to make it easier on myself. While it's out, wanted to clean it up, do the coupler rebuild kit, paint, and all that fun stuff. Of...

    Steering coupler roll pin issues

You need to have the coupler on far enough so when you look in the hole for the roll pin, it looks round , and your not seeing any splines. Then it should tap right in. You didn't change the coupler, right? When you look at an input shaft, you will see the necked down section with no splines...

    little help please

No, the shoes should be somewhere near the center. If you remember installing the column, you will remember tightening 3 nuts which pull the column up onto the supportworks. Well those studs coming down,go through the plastic slotted bushings, we are talking about. If you loosen those 3 NUTs...

    Steering coupler roll pin issues

I have to guess the same as above. Coupler not in the right spot. the end of the split pin(s) could have boogered the splines to the point that the coupler wont go to where it should be. A small file dressing may be needed.

    408 going in

no oil filter adapter here, just use a short K&N. You have Power steering? if not, you may not have the issues I had. I had to jack the motor up high to clear the box, steering coupler and gearselector, shaved some of the column where the selector bracket is. I have biscuit mounts, you have...

    Steering column removal

Sometimes the roll pin will swedge a very small amount of metal as it comes through the hole in the shaft. You can't see it but there might be a burr inside the coupler where the roll pin pushed it's way out. If that's what's causing it to jam you might try working it back and forth (in and...

How To Replace your Lower Column Bearing: Better and Cheaper!!!

Re: 72 demon ,4 speed How do you get bearing on the shaft? The pin through the shaft that goes into coupler is extremely tight, couldn't press it out with a vise. Or does it slip on from the top by steering wheel ? If so how does that come apart ? Yote

    Steering Column Install help???

The way I do mine is to "rough" it in. Get it sort of lined up, complete with coupler on column, "in place" and tie something under the column from above on the support, like a sling, leaving enough slack to slide it. Then you should be able to go out into the engine bay...

    Steering Coupler Retaining Clamp

So I'm in the process of installing one of my steering coupler retaining clips on my coupler. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get the bottoms of the clip to pop into the center of the roll pin on both sides of the coupler? The retainer is quite beefy and the bottom is quite hard to...

    Steering column removal

Yep. I believe that a 1/4" punch will be what you need to push the roll pin out. Have someone hold the steering wheel from turning while removing the roll pin, it tends to want to turn as you try to tap it out...

Dropping the steering column, any tips?

If you want to remove it completely, drive the pin out of the steering coupler. I use "selected" open end wrenches to pry between the coupler and box. What year???? In 67 there are the two nuts and studs under the dash, and a third bolt further down. If it's a column shift you'll...

    completely rebuild front suspension?

Torsion bar tools are a waste of money. Put it up on jacks, loosen the torsion bar adjusters, pull the shocks, separate the ball joints, remove the strut rod nuts. Pull the torsion bar clips, remove the LCA spindle nuts and use a dead blow hammer to knock the LCA back until the torsion bar hex...

    71 duster front end help

This car only has 20,000 miles on it and from the looks of things the steering wheel has never been off. So from what i can see there is no master spline on the steering wheel itself. I see what your saying about the coupler. I was very cautious when i assembled it all to watch for master...

    Power steering column rebuild...?
