    65 Barracuda daily driver

So, I took off the steering coupler housing and it seems to be an older style - missing the 2 pins. It's got a clamp instead of one pin and it does not have that little pin at all. Does anyone have a spare housing that they are willing to part with?

    Collapsed Steering Shaft

It will be fine as is. The column has plenty more room to collapse. If you are in an accident that severe, you may more problems to contend with. Since the Borgeson box is on a slight angle, an impact would drive the column to the side to some degree. When using my coupler arrangement, their is...

    Steering coupler mod

Set screw Is on the splined side and sets into the original notch on the steering box shaft. I was going to notch the other side to allow for the “plunge” like the original style coupler. A drilled hole would work too just no room for plunge.

    Steering coupler basic questions

Hit the drift pin out on the left and pry it off the splines with the proper tool. 1/4 drift punch and do,t lose the pin. Then I use a tie rod / small ball joint fork and pry carefully making sure you don't damage the box or seal. You will have to take all the bolts you loosened out and...

    pwr to manual steering

Somewhat yes, but note you also have to remove the dowel pin on the coupler column side to allow for the column shaft end to separate. Also if I recall I had to at least loosen if not unbolt (3 screws at the floor & 2 nuts & a screw at column support bracket) the column in order for it to slide...

Coupler pin steering box help please.

is the pin that holds the coupler to the steering box and column a solid pin or is it hollow? What’s in mine is split and hollow.... or am I missing the pin entirely and is the split hollow thing I’m looking at a sleeve of some sort? I wish I had a pic but am not near the car currently...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

To remove it? I did. It was easier that way. But I have also simply driven out the pin and removed the steering box. I find the column removal is easier if there’s an engine in the car

    69 Dart 340 Swinger Street/Road Race build

Looks good! First time I removed the coupler from the box I used a pickle fork for ball joints(might have been tie rods). The drift pin was the pain to remove till a friend sold me the punch that has the half ball end. Polished it a bit on the sides and it more or less popped out. Looking...

    Steering Coupler Rebuild "How To"

Hey, THANKS GSXcite for your response. Measured the length of the one coupler today and its about 3" long, the rough length of one of the aftermarket extensions from Summit Racing, Classic Industries etc, that you stated. my thought of the car having a power steering to manual conversion and...

Steering coupler and master spline questions

No mistaking a P/S coupler from a Manual box one the manual one is much larger. Your two piece steering shaft may have collapsed a little. You did remove the roll pin from the coupler, right?

    Coupler For Borgeson Steering Box

The couplers they supply are a nice improvement over the factory style. Super easy to install also, and they supply you with the drill bit, with the coupler. If you break the drill bit on the last hole, like we did. There’s your roll pin.

    Scary steering shaft/coupler failure!

This is a picture of the steering coupler coming apart on my ’68 Barracuda AS I WAS DRIVING IT. The shaft is pulling back out of the coupler. Question about fuel gauge wiring.

First thing you need if you don't have, is go over to MyMopar and download the 2-volume 73 service manual. I believe it's Dodge, not Plymouth "The wiring path". from ground--to the tank sender---through the sender---out the wire, which goes up into the trunk, up forward in the...

    steering coupler removal

Thanks for saying that, btw. WD-40 and the correct drive pin punch, and you should not have any problem driving that roll pin out of the coupler. Heat will damage the seals on that steering box input shaft , for those who are not re-building the steering box.

This is a good used power steering column coupler for a mid 60's early 70's A B or E body car with power steering. I don’t know about piece of cake. But with the right punch and a few good whacks, the roll pin should be doable. Hit the other one a few times and did not budge. Looked ok, so it stayed.

    Universal steering couplers

That's actually a really good idea because I've been trying to find and 11/32 Cobalt bit to drill a hole in the stainless steel coupler I purchased. But the pain is a oddball size how did you get a 3/8 bolt to fit snugly in the factory pin hole? I would have to probably tap the shaft and just...
