Yeah, you didn't see problems like this with the stock large gear reduction starters Chrysler used. Like I said earlier, the only reason I'd go to a mini starter would be lack of space.

The "good" magnum manifolds have 2-1/8" outlets. Just a tad smaller than late 60's 340.

...i'd probably push toward headers to pick up a little more low end and midrange torque as well as cost considerations, but you wouldn't be losing much at all with 340 manifolds. i like that combo and the addition of a OD lockup with some gears out back should really make it shine all around.
