Two problems. 1. Not sure you can determine the port size form the gasket alone. 2. The port you care about for performance, is the outlet. The 340 and "good" magnum manifolds have the larges outlet. Sounds like you've already talked yourself into using 318 manifolds, so carry on and enjoy.

With no P/S, I tell you what I'd put on it. I'd put Magnum manifolds on it. I'm not 100% sure they fit, but I think they do. Maybe someone that's done it will chime in. The big outlet Magnum manifolds outflow the 340 manifolds.

I'm looking at making a head change, but am not able to find much in the way of magnum style performance heads. Is cast iron or aluminum better? The engine is stock with the exception of an aluminum intake, and 340 manifolds.

Just as an update to anyone wanting to install magnum intakes on la heads, dont do it. I had all the parts ready to go the drill bits the clamps the tap kit, and was like let me just look this over really good before i start.... well, the ports do not match between an la and magnum. the magnum...

Without some sort of other mod, this is true, but there are specific magnum manifolds that will work. in general though, yes, the old 273 manifolds drop right in as intended, but they are really restrictive.

Al, if your exhaust manifolds are the same as the ones I have laying out in the shop, you're welcome to them. They came off of a 2006 Dodge Magnum wagon that got crashed with 6K miles on it. I'll send you a pic later on when I go out to the shop.

The way 777 did it is how some others "generally" have done.......Find manifolds, sometimes magnum, that fit reversed, run a crossover down in front of the K, and then run a big single pipe out and down the pass side. THAT is likely to get tight.

I got mine off a 2001 ram 1500. Had to do a little work on the drivers side to get the downpipe to fit right but it fits using a floor shifter. Headers can be a pain. If you have a stock or mild build and you aren't trying to squeeze the last ounce of power out of it, a pair of early 340 manifolds would work fine. Slight correction. The hole is 2-1/8 on the mag and about 2-1/4 on the good 340 units.

I don't think the MP folks RE crate engines ever suspected people might use those factory truck and Jeep manifolds in "cars". Of course they really only work in cars that have manual steering. I'd be interested to know if that Borgeson steering box clears Magnum manifolds.

Aluminum heads and roller rockers on that 7 to 1 short block are like putting silk stockings on a pig. I would either buy a set of pistons, or start over with a 5.9 magnum to build.

After 4500 rpm the torker is better I had good luck with mine on a 340 11 to1 243@50 108 cam it had rhoads lifters so that made it slighty bigger then your cam but you have 20 more cubes of torque . Air gap is hard to beat for a street car. 1 are yo going to race it? 2 gear ratio 3 valve size

Yeah there have been some folks that put them on. I think they only fit the 67 and up cars.

...fair points about the inlet and outlet ports. I'm pulling the 318 manifolds off today and will measure the outlet port sizes, and I'll measure the head port sizes for comparison. Hopefully the outlets are at least the same as the 1-7/8" magnum outlets.
