Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

That is correct but you can make clearance for the shocks and close it up with no loss of strength IMO. I've been there: I ran a 4 speed on the track with some history. I twisted stock 8-3/4" axles, broke a 4.56 489 case setup (ring gear/posi failure), broke a 489 5.13 (ring gear failure)...

340 Cold Valve Lash Unknown Cam

Ok, I am a glutton for punishment. I know you’re supposed to set valve lash close to running temperature, its 120°F in my garage so I won’t. I will set it at ambient. I know you’re supposed to have a card for your cam, I don’t. As Schultz used to say I know nothing about this cam. Engine: 340...

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

Nothing wrong with brand loyalty at all. I guarantee, Mopar guys would rather see a 60 than a 9. I've got a 4.10 Dana in my rr, and an 8 3/4 dapco locker in my savoy. My nines are in an Opel, and an English Ford. But brand loyalty has nothing to do with those two.

    Outboard lower unit interchange

I think what I'd do is look for an original or reprint parts book, then take those numbers and plug into Google and ebay. There are folks selling that sort of thing on there fairly regularly

    Outboard lower unit interchange

Boy I don't know without part numbers or casting numbers, and I don't have any of my old books immediately available (fire cleanup) and some are just plain missing in action. But they are gasketed with a thick "rope" neoprene seal, and I would suspect chineseoization rather than...

WHO'S GOT THE SCOOP ON RESIDUAL VALVES?

That makes no sense. They have ALWAYS had springs. I was taught that drums need residual, disk do not. There are sometimes exceptions, I was told depending on master cyl. location, IE older vehicles under the floor boards.

Mental Note: use your phone and video tape each room individually. If your house has an issue (knock on wood ya don’t) you have a video of all your stuff and condition for future reference.

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

Good evening, I have recently been discussing clutches with some very knowledgeable stick racers. My learnings as of recent are that clutch companies want to overclutch every car out there, hence dual disc clutches being sold in large numbers. I notice you have 440hp, and a 550 HP rated...

shot peening a distributor gear for a roller camshaft

Update, I had the melonized gear from Hughes pressed onto a stock intermediate shaft at a local machine shop. They did not press a roll pin in it. He didn't think it should need it he said it needed over 1 ton of pressure to press it on. They did not have a roll pin from the factory. Just...

WHO'S GOT THE SCOOP ON RESIDUAL VALVES?

The spring in the wheel cylinder between the cups makes the residual valve in the Master cyl, redundant, not nec. So, if the wheel cyls have a spring, you don't need the residual valve in the m/c.

Mopar Muscle induction Extravaganza Dyno testing SBM intakes, comparison....

I'm skeptical that the dyno results may be getting swayed by advertising dollars from Edelbrock. I know of at least one member here (that I can remeber off the top of my head!) who picked up ET & MPH in a stocke stroke combination by switching to a single plane (An Old TORKER 340 at that!) from...

    Outboard lower unit interchange

I have a 1963 Evinrude fastwin 18hp short shaft outboard, model 18302, that I cannot get to stop mixing water in the lower gearcase. I've tried a new skeg (fin) new seals, ended up replacing the prop shaft bushings and seals as the original fin was cracked. I believe now that the fin and the...

Just a Note About New Lifters

I'm not an expert but from what I've read it seems the primary culprit for tappet failure is lifters not correctly ground.
