    Roller Block Cams?

Yeah no worries it is definitely either a 1990 or 91 block that I pulled out of a 1981 D300! I have the roller lifters and spider hold down that came with it. When I first discovered the cracked heads were magnum heads I initially thought I had a complete magnum motor. A few years later I...

    Stroker advice

Okay I crashed the dart into a telephone pole after I lost all braking. So I took the entire car apart and I have the engine pulled looking to make more power. I recently bought a COMP CAMS KIT I’ll post a picture below of the specs. Im just wondering what 390 stroker kit is best for my 318 with...

    Edelbrock heads with OEM manifolds

Sounds like ya got it whipped. Excellent. I never had to deal with that kind of heat you have. I have to agree that the aluminum does run cooler. This was in lower New York. What kind of fan are you running?

    Edelbrock heads with OEM manifolds

9.5:1 on the Aluminum head cars. Had 8:5:1 on my stock steel head 318. All run plates to allow 18 degrees idle and 30 all in. Cams are all low duration hitting around 7.5 dynamic and 185 PSI cranking (the cast head build was lower) My car with the stock cast heads and low compression pinged...

    318 comp cam

12 second bracket, not a good choice with your running gear. What car? That or one step larger at max. The manual can handle the next size up depending on what it is & the compression ratio of the engine now.

Magnum Exhaust Manifolds in an A Body

...maybe 318 manifolds... So to recap, I'm building a fun 71 Demon. Dropping in a nice warm magnum 318, with a 4bbl and nice '340' cam, and an A-833od 4-speed, and 3.23 gears - just a nice clean-running hot street machine that cruises perfectly on the highway and idles with a bit of lope -...

302 heads-Is it worth putting them on a stock 318

Depends on what year your Stock 318 is? '68 & '69 are the stock 230 hp 9.2:1 compression engines. Same with the '89 - '91 318 roller engines 9.2:1 cr and these come from the factory with the 302 closed chamber heads. Both of these engine years perform well and run very nice with the stock...

Thought I explained the cam was degreed. Why am I getting blasted on doing so?

    Disappointing dyno results

That is NOT "installing" a performance cam. Performance cams (or really, even stock ones) need to be checked. Google up "degreeing a cam" There are lots of websites and videos, some by the am manufacturers on doing so. I helped a guy REALLY wake up a 318 that was nearly 12* off...

    Disappointing dyno results

I was at the mercy of the cam supplier. As I said, not a cam guy. Got tired of reading comments on cams so did the best I could. Still at a loss and don't know what to do. If I were to purchase another cam would be the same story. Thanks for your comments.

    Better Torque From A 318

First, you need a car. You should tailor some mods with a car in mind, like 66 down or 67 up. Any 318 will make a really nice street car. What do you want. All around, drive anywhere, pump gas, decent mpg? Think a 340 Duster? NO special parts needed. 318 short block, 360 heads, cast 340...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

I’d look at something similar to the Eddy Performer RPM or just plain Performer cam kits. Both are relatively mild cams designed for stock heads. At least in small block fashion.

    Basic 318 Mods

My first posting in this thread addressed Dan's carb/intake question. But, let me say the very first thing I'd do to the 318. THE first: Check to make sure the heat riser flap is opening in the exhaust manifold. More than once I've seen these freeze (rust) shut. Bad gas mileage and very...

    Comp's XE Cams

Aj ain't saying small cam he's saying no cam, stock 318 cam only with stall and gears, if you go anything above stock you've murdered the bottom end, and that larger basically only adds on top (totally over looking midrange gain). To me seems a little drastic. I'm not saying stab a big cam in...

    318 cam

I totally understand why the OP hasn't returned. Those of us who've given good answers have basically wasted our time because of thoughtless members who insist on running everything down people other than themselves want to do. Then there are those who insist on recommending other things besides...

    Disappointing dyno results

...last thing I'd be looking at at this point! I agree with the rest that cam is way wrong for making hp! If you don't care about hp or are dead set on not changing the cam. It will probably make a good daily driver! Just know that it's gonna be a 318 at heart. That cam is on par with 2bbl 318 cams

    318 cam

Emissions OEM small block cams for the smaller displacements wer short on intake lift. Valve was in the way of vacuum up to the carb resulting in low power and fuel economy. A fairly stockish short duration but high lift cam will aid performance immensely. Do like the factory 5 liter...

Add hotter cam or Add hotter head ?

Possibly a draw, but if I had to pick one heads, but driveability wise trick flow with a stock 318 cam gonna be better than a crazy amount of duration and stock 318 heads. LS/Hemi make crazy power with mild cams because of there heads. Even magnum heads gave a good bump in power without much cam.

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

You should not give advice for 273 engines. There is so much wrong information in your post. The 273 was the original LA engine. They were never a smog motor. The 2 barrel pistons were almost at zero deck and were almost 9:1 compression ratio. Closed chamber heads were used from 64 to 67...

    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

Back in 1982 while in Germany, a Brit that worked on base had a 1968 Bristol 410. Stock it had a 318 Poly with 4bbl mounted "Mid-Engine" behind the front wheels. Sounded wicked for a stock A engine. 8 3/4 suregrip with 2.94 gears I had pulled a Poly teen out of a US Army 66 Coronet MP cop car...

Ok old timers , i need your knowledge on this cam ! Direct connection camshaft

I agree 100% the cam is "pretty big" for a 318. You can overcome a lot of that by installing it as I described though and running the appropriate gear set. I don't agree though that the cam is necessarily "not as good" as some modern grinds. It certainly is. Those cams were ground with the .903...

[SOLD] 318/340 main caps, new low price $95usd shipped

over the years, i had 3 or 4 318`s and i never broke a main cap. but they were seldom used for racing, mostly street use in the 225 hp and 15 second range (when raced) . they were 318 stock short-blocks dressed with 340 intake and exhaust manifolds, 340 cams, and i tried stock j-heads, and...

who to trust for hydraulic flat lifters these days?

I think I have some original hydraulic lifters with almost no miles on them out of a "68" or "69" 273. The cam looked like new and they were too good to toss, but I don't run hydraulic cams. You can have them for shipping if I can find them. Start a private conversation if interested.

    340 Build help please.

The way I see each long block has a general amount of hp sitting and waiting to be unlocked with basic cam 4bbl and headers, Eg. a low cr long block is somewhat limited by what cam you can use especially if it's a mainly street car, take a low cr 318 250-300 hp with most cams people would use...
